Why foot length in centimeters is the most reliable column
US, UK and EU shoe sizes are all built around foot length, but each scale starts and steps differently, and brands round differently within each one. Foot length in centimeters is the one column that doesn't shift: measure a foot, and it applies the same way whichever brand's sizing you're converting to.
To measure: stand on a piece of paper, mark the heel and the longest toe, and measure the distance between the marks in the afternoon, when feet are at their largest.
Using it to reduce returns
- Show foot length on your product page, not just a size number, if you sell to multiple countries. It's the one figure a shopper can check against their own measurement.
- Say plainly if a shoe runs small or large for its labeled size, since last shape varies even more than the numbering does.
- Kids' sizing isn't included here, since it uses its own scale (often starting again from a small number) that varies more by brand than adult sizing does. Use the specific brand's kids' chart.
Questions people ask
Is a men's size the same as a women's size in the US?
No. US women's sizing runs about 1.5 to 2 sizes higher than the equivalent US men's size for the same foot length, which is why they're shown as separate tables here.
Why do two brands list different EU sizes for what I measure as the same length?
Last shape (the mold a shoe is built around) varies by brand, so the same labeled EU size can fit differently. Foot length in centimeters is the more reliable figure to shop by across brands.
What's the most accurate way to measure foot size at home?
Trace or mark both feet (they're often slightly different sizes) standing on paper, in the afternoon, and use the larger measurement.
Does this cover wide or narrow widths?
No, only length-based sizing. Width sizing (like B, D, EE) is brand-specific; check the brand's own width chart if that matters for the fit.
