Import at Products → All Products → Import. Leave products as Draft first so you can check them before they go live.
The variable product's parent row has no price or stock: those live on each variation row underneath it.
What it generates
Pick a niche (clothing, electronics, home & kitchen, beauty, pet supplies, or books & stationery) and a count, and the tool cycles through a set of realistic product templates for that niche, giving each one a unique SKU, a price, and a stock count. Turn on “Add one variable product” to also get a parent product with a couple of variations, so your staging catalog has both simple and variable products to test against.
Default settings
- Niche
- Clothing & apparel, 20 simple products
- Variable product
- Classic Crew T-Shirt, in 4 colors
25 product rows: 20 simple products (cycling through 10 templates twice) plus 1 variable product with 4 color variations, all set to Draft.
Images are placeholders from placehold.co, labeled with the product name. That's fine for checking a theme's product grid or a staging import, but replace them before the store goes live.
Importing the file
- 01
Download the CSV
Pick a niche, a count, and whether to include a variable product, then download the file.
- 02
Import it
Go to Products → All Products → Import, upload the file, and step through the column mapping screen. Since the headers already match WooCommerce's own column names, they map themselves.
- 03
Check, then publish
Products import as Draft by default. Look them over, then select them all and use Bulk actions → Edit to publish, or switch “Import as” to Published before you import.
Pitfalls
- SKUs are made up (for example
APP-0001). Check they don't collide with real SKUs before importing into a live catalog. - This adds test data; it doesn't remove anything. Use a staging site or a fresh install, not your production store.
- Only one variable product is added per niche, so it's not a stress test for very large attribute counts.
Questions people ask
Will these dummy products break my real catalog?
No, they're just new rows to import. Nothing existing is changed. Still, import into a staging site or test install rather than a live store.
Can I use the placeholder images live?
No. They're generated by placehold.co so the product grid isn't empty while you test a theme. Swap in real photos before launch.
Can I get products in a different niche?
Pick another niche from the dropdown and download again. There's no way to mix two niches in one file yet, but you can open both files and combine rows yourself.
Does every niche include a variable product?
Only when “Add one variable product” is on. Each niche has one built in, using an attribute that fits it (Color, Glaze, Shade, or Size).
