How TikTok Shop fees work

In the US, TikTok Shop's referral fee covers all of its selling fees, payment processing included. Shipping and tax aren't part of it. Rates last checked 30 Sep 2026.

Referral fee = referral rate × (what the buyer pays + platform discount − tax)
TikTok's own formula. What the buyer pays includes any shipping you charge. Platform discounts are ones TikTok funds.

Which rate? TikTok's published category table (last updated 14 May 2026) lists 6% for most categories, 5% for five jewelry sub-categories and most pre-owned categories, and 3% on the part of a collectible or pre-owned sale above $10,000.

Some seller news sites reported a rise to 8% from 4 August 2026. TikTok's public fee pages still showed 6% when we checked on 30 Sep 2026, so the calculator defaults to 6%. Switch to 8% to test it, or pick Custom and enter the rate on your own invoice.

  • Creator commission: TikTok works it out as (revenue − refunds) × your commission rate, on the price the buyer actually paid. The calculator applies it to the item price.
  • Refund administration fee: when an order is refunded, TikTok returns the referral fee minus 20% of it, capped at $5 per SKU since 15 May 2025.
  • Sales tax on the referral fee: since 1 Nov 2025, TikTok adds sales tax to the referral fee for sellers whose business address is in Texas or West Virginia.

Worked example (the calculator's starting values)

Referral fee
6% × $25.00 = $1.50
Creator commission
15% × $25.00 = $3.75
Payout
$25.00 − $1.50 − $3.75 = $19.75
Your costs
$7.00 + $4.50 + $0.50 = $12.00

Profit $7.75 per order (31% margin). At 8% it would be $7.25. If the order is refunded, the admin fee is 20% × $1.50 = $0.30.

Setting TikTok Shop prices from Shopify or WooCommerce

  1. 01

Shopify: give TikTok its own prices

TikTok is an order-generating channel, so Shopify lets its channel market carry separate prices. Go to Markets > Catalogs, click Create catalog, and use Price adjustment to raise or lower every price by a percentage, or set a price per product. Then open Markets, pick the TikTok channel market and assign the catalog under Catalogs.

  2. 02

WooCommerce: check the price you sync

Prices live under Products, in Product data > General. Check whether your TikTok Shop integration can set a separate TikTok price. If it can't, make sure the Regular price clears the break-even price the calculator shows.

  3. 03

    Use break-even as your floor

The break-even item price already allows for the referral fee and creator commission. Price above it, and leave room for the promotions and creator rates you plan to run.

Pitfalls

  • Check your invoice rate. Your monthly invoice under Seller Center > Finance > Invoices shows what you were actually charged.
  • Shipping is in the base. TikTok's formula uses the total the buyer pays (minus tax), so shipping you charge pays the referral fee too.
  • Discounts cut commission too. Creators earn on what the buyer paid, so your own discounts lower the commission as well as your revenue.
  • Shipping and fulfillment costs vary. TikTok Shipping labels and Fulfilled by TikTok fees depend on weight and service, so enter your own figure.
  • Refunds cost more than the admin fee. Return shipping and unsellable returns usually matter more than the 20% admin fee.

Questions people ask

What percentage does TikTok Shop take?

TikTok's published rate is 6% of the order total (minus tax) for most US categories, with 5% for some jewelry and pre-owned categories. Creator commission, if you use affiliates, comes on top.

Did TikTok Shop raise its fee to 8%?

Some sellers and news sites reported an 8% rate from 4 August 2026, but TikTok's public fee pages still showed 6% on 30 Sep 2026. Check your own rate under Finance > Invoices in Seller Center and use the custom rate.

Does TikTok Shop charge payment processing fees on top?

No. Since 1 April 2024, the referral fee covers all TikTok Shop fees except shipping and tax.

What is the refund administration fee?

When an order is refunded, TikTok keeps 20% of the referral fee it would otherwise return, capped at $5 per SKU. It isn't charged on eligible pre-shipment auto-cancellations or on 'buy now refund later' creator sample orders.

When does TikTok Shop pay out?

After the order is delivered with no open refund or return request, once your balance passes the $1 payout threshold.
