The same item, two fee structures

Walmart Marketplace and Amazon both charge a referral fee that depends on category and price, but the rates and bands differ by category, and Amazon adds a selling plan fee on top. The calculator runs your price and costs through both.

Profit = total sale − referral fee − plan fee (Amazon only) − fulfillment cost − product cost

Example (the calculator's starting numbers, Clothing & accessories)

Sale total
$35.00
Walmart referral fee (5% to $15, 10% to $20, 15% over)
$5.25
Amazon referral fee (5%/10%/17% bands, min $0.30)
$5.95
Amazon Professional plan share (100 units/mo)
$0.40

Walmart leaves $14.75 and Amazon $13.65, a $1.10 edge to Walmart on this item after the same $9 product cost and $6 fulfillment cost on each.

What the fee comparison leaves out

  • Traffic. Amazon usually brings far more buyers to a new listing. A lower fee on Walmart doesn't help if the item barely gets seen there.
  • Amazon's plan. Individual ($0.99 per item) suits very low volume. Professional ($39.99 a month) gets cheaper per unit as your volume grows, which the calculator spreads across your monthly units.
  • WFS and FBA. If either marketplace fulfills the order for you, use that service's fee as your fulfillment cost instead of your own shipping cost.

Questions people ask

Is Walmart Marketplace cheaper than Amazon?

Often, by a small margin: referral fee rates are close in most categories, but Amazon adds a selling plan fee (Individual or Professional) that Walmart doesn't charge. The gap depends heavily on your category and volume.

Do Walmart and Amazon charge the same referral fee rate?

In many categories the percentages match, but the bands they apply to and the highest tier's rate can differ, and Amazon sets its own minimum referral fee per item.

Does this include FBA or WFS fulfillment fees?

Not automatically. Enter your actual FBA or WFS fee (or your own shipping cost, if you fulfill yourself) in the fulfillment field for each marketplace.

Should I sell on both Walmart and Amazon?

Many sellers do, since the platforms reach different buyers. Use this calculator per product to decide where to push inventory and promotions when a product is a close call on fees alone.
