WooCommerce Plugin Compatibility Checker
Look up a list of plugins on WordPress.org for their PHP requirement, last update, and any HPOS or checkout-block mentions in their listing.
What this checks, and what it can't
Paste up to 6 plugin slugs (the part of the URL after wordpress.org/plugins/) and this tool reads each one's public WordPress.org listing: the PHP version it requires, the WordPress version it's tested up to, how recently it was updated, and a text search of its description and changelog for mentions of High-Performance Order Storage (HPOS) or the cart/checkout blocks.
That text search is a heuristic, not a real compatibility check: a plugin can be genuinely HPOS-compatible without the word "HPOS" appearing anywhere in its listing, and mentioning it doesn't guarantee compatibility either. The only fully authoritative source is your own site.
The real check
- 01
Go to WooCommerce → Settings → Advanced → Features
Scroll to Order Data Storage. WooCommerce lists every active plugin as compatible, incompatible or unknown, based on what each plugin actually declares.
- 02
Update or replace anything flagged incompatible
WooCommerce won't let you enable HPOS while an incompatible plugin is active.
- 03
Use this tool first to triage
Before you even install a plugin, or when you're comparing two alternatives, to see which is more actively maintained and more likely to already support HPOS.
Pitfalls
- Paid plugins sold outside WordPress.org (most premium WooCommerce extensions) aren't in this directory at all; check their own changelog or support page instead.
- A plugin that hasn't updated in over a year and a half isn't necessarily broken, but it's meaningfully more likely to be unmaintained and untested against current WooCommerce and PHP.
- "Tested up to" is the WordPress version the developer last tested with, not a guarantee of compatibility with your exact combination of plugins and theme.
Questions people ask
Where do I get a plugin's slug?
It's the part of its WordPress.org URL right after /plugins/, for example "woocommerce-subscriptions" from wordpress.org/plugins/woocommerce-subscriptions/. You can also paste the full URL.
Why does it say a plugin wasn't found?
Most premium WooCommerce extensions (sold on woocommerce.com or a developer's own site) aren't listed on WordPress.org at all, so there's nothing to look up. Check the plugin's own site.
Does 'no HPOS mention found' mean it's incompatible?
No. It only means the word wasn't found in that plugin's public listing text. Many compatible plugins never mention HPOS by name. Check WooCommerce → Settings → Advanced → Features on your own site for the real answer.
What's the difference between HPOS and the checkout blocks?
They're two separate WooCommerce features that plugins can support independently: HPOS changes how orders are stored in the database, while the cart and checkout blocks are the newer block-based front-end (replacing the old shortcode-based cart and checkout pages).
