WooCommerce PHP 8.1 Readiness Checker
Check your store's PHP, WooCommerce and WordPress versions against WooCommerce 11.6's PHP 8.1 requirement, then get an upgrade plan.
Find it in WooCommerce → Status → Server environment. Leave on Detect to read it from the site.
What changes in WooCommerce 11.6
WooCommerce 11.6, planned for February 2027, requires PHP 8.1 or newer. WooCommerce recommends PHP 8.3 or newer. Here's what that means for each PHP version:
| Your PHP | What happens |
|---|---|
| 7.4 or 8.0 | From WooCommerce 11.3 you see an admin notice. 11.5 is the last planned release you can install. The store keeps working, but WordPress won't offer 11.6. |
| 8.1 | Meets the minimum, but PHP 8.1 stopped getting security fixes on 31 Dec 2025. |
| 8.2 | Meets the minimum. Security support ends 31 Dec 2026. |
| 8.3 or newer | Ready, and meets WooCommerce's recommendation. |
WooCommerce's announcement puts about 7% of tracked stores on PHP 7.4 and 2% on PHP 8.0.
How the checker finds your versions
- PHP: from the
X-Powered-Byheader, if your server sends it. Many hosts hide it; then pick your version from WooCommerce → Status → Server environment. - WooCommerce: from its generator meta tag, its
readme.txtor the?ver=on its front-end files. - WordPress: from the generator meta tag, the RSS feed, or core file versions.
The checklist and host email below the results are filled in with your domain and PHP version.

Questions people ask
Will my store break when WooCommerce 11.6 comes out?
No. The requirement doesn't deactivate an existing install. Stores on PHP 7.4 or 8.0 can update up to 11.5, then WordPress won't offer newer WooCommerce versions until PHP is upgraded.
How do I check my PHP version?
In WordPress go to WooCommerce → Status and look for PHP version under Server environment. Your hosting control panel shows it too.
Should I go straight to PHP 8.3 or 8.4?
WooCommerce recommends 8.3 or newer, and its requirements page lists support tested up to 8.4. Test on staging first, because older plugins break more often on newer PHP.
Why does the checker say my PHP version is hidden?
Your server doesn't send the X-Powered-By header, which is good security practice. Pick your version in the options to get a tailored checklist.
Who changes the PHP version?
Your host controls it. On most hosts you can switch it in the control panel; otherwise send them the email the checker writes for you.
