ChatGPT Product Feed Generator
Convert a Google Merchant Center feed or a Shopify product export into OpenAI's product feed format, ready to compress and upload.
The store name shoppers see. Required on every row.
Only works once OpenAI enables checkout for your integration.
How your fields are mapped
| OpenAI field | From a Google feed | From a Shopify export |
|---|---|---|
item_id | id | Variant SKU, or the URL handle plus option values |
title | title | Title plus the option values |
description | description (HTML removed) | Description or Body (HTML), as plain text |
url | link | Your store URL + /products/ + URL handle |
image_url | image_link | Variant image, or the first product image |
price, sale_price | price, sale_price | Compare-at price becomes price and Price becomes sale_price when it's lower |
availability | in_stock, out_of_stock; preorder becomes pre_order | From inventory tracking, quantity and the continue-selling setting |
group_id, variant_dict | item_group_id plus the attributes that vary (color, size, material, pattern) | URL handle plus Option names and values |
gtin, mpn, brand | gtin, mpn, brand | Barcodes, Google Shopping / MPN, Vendor |
Your seller name goes on every row, because OpenAI requires seller_name. Search eligibility is set to true and checkout to false unless you opt in. Returns details come from the options above the results.
The sample Google Merchant Center feed
- Rows in
- 7 (tab-separated)
- Tee variants
- 3 rows sharing item_group_id TEE
- Kettle
- availability preorder
7 items out, 3 of them grouped as variants with variant_dict values such as {"color":"Black","size":"S"}. The kettle becomes pre_order. The output passes the ChatGPT product feed validator with no errors.
Getting your source file
- 01
Shopify
Go to Products → Export, choose All products and either CSV format, click Export products and drop the file in. Set your store URL and currency, since the export includes neither.
- 02
Google Merchant Center
Use the TSV, TXT or CSV file you upload to Merchant Center, or a scheduled-fetch feed file from your feed app.
- 03
WooCommerce
If a Google feed plugin builds your Merchant Center feed, download the file it generates and use the Google feed option.
Limits and what to check
- Onboarding is by approval. OpenAI currently accepts product feeds from approved partners, uploaded over SFTP as
csv.gzand other formats. - Shopify variant links. Exports have no variant IDs, so variant rows link to the product page. OpenAI prefers the variant preselected when possible.
- Weights and shipping. Shopify's variant weight is a shipping weight, and OpenAI wants the net product weight, so it isn't carried over. Shipping charges need feed-specific setup with OpenAI.
- Invalid GTINs are dropped rather than sent, and rows missing a required field are left out and listed.
- Prohibited products. OpenAI doesn't allow adult, age-restricted, dangerous and other restricted products in ChatGPT. Leave them out of the feed.
Questions people ask
Is the OpenAI product feed the same as a Google Shopping feed?
No. Field names and rules differ: link becomes url, preorder becomes pre_order, and seller_name is required. OpenAI can also accept a Google-compatible profile, but only after it confirms that format for your feed.
How often should I upload the feed?
OpenAI recommends a full snapshot at least daily, overwriting the same file name each time.
Can I turn on ChatGPT checkout from the feed?
Only if OpenAI has enabled checkout for your integration. The flag also needs your privacy policy and terms of service URLs on every row.
Does it work with a WooCommerce store?
Yes, through a Google Merchant Center feed file from your feed plugin. WooCommerce's own product export isn't a supported input.
Is my product data uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs in your browser, and the file never leaves your computer.
