What this actually checks

There's no public way to search inside ChatGPT's answers or ask it to list every brand it knows, so no free tool can truthfully say your product "is" or "isn't" in ChatGPT today. What this one does instead: it takes the product details and page content you paste in, simulates the kind of questions a shopper comparing products like yours would ask an AI assistant, and rates how completely your own content answers them.

That's a readiness check, not a live lookup. Two products with identical content can still be surfaced differently depending on things this tool can't see: your Merchant Center feed, review volume elsewhere on the web, and how a specific AI tool ranks sources that day.

The levers that actually move the needle

  • Structured data. Google's own guidance for AI-era search results still starts with Product structured data (JSON-LD): name, image, description and an offer with price and availability, marked up so a crawler can read it without guessing.
  • Bot access. OpenAI crawls and browses with three named agents: GPTBot (training), OAI-SearchBot (ChatGPT's search feature) and ChatGPT-User (live browsing during a chat). A blanket Disallow: / in robots.txt keeps all three out.
  • Conversational Q&A. If you run a Google Merchant Center feed, the optional question_and_answer attribute exists specifically to feed AI shopping experiences plain-language product facts.
  • Content completeness. An AI assistant can only repeat what's actually written in text on the page. A spec buried in a product photo or a PDF spec sheet might as well not exist to it.

After the check

Fill the content gaps the tool flags with the AI product description optimizer, then work through the technical checklist: add or check your Shopify robots.txt, build Product schema, and add Merchant Center Q&A if you run a feed.

Questions people ask

Can this tool actually query ChatGPT to check my product?

No. Nothing outside OpenAI can search inside ChatGPT's answers. This tool estimates readiness from the content you give it and known signals AI shopping tools rely on, and says so plainly in its own output.

What's GPTBot?

OpenAI's crawler for training data. OAI-SearchBot and ChatGPT-User are separate agents for ChatGPT's search feature and live browsing. Blocking one in robots.txt doesn't block the others; check all three.

Do I need a Merchant Center feed for this to matter?

It helps but isn't required. A feed with the question_and_answer attribute is one more channel Google's AI shopping features can draw on; on-page content matters regardless of whether you run a feed.

Why does the checklist mention reviews?

Review count and rating are common trust signals AI shopping summaries surface next to a product. The tool never invents a number for you; add your real ones under Details.

How is this different from the AI product description optimizer?

This one diagnoses gaps in what you already have. The AI product description optimizer writes the replacement content.
