ChatGPT Product Feed Validator
Check your product feed against OpenAI's spec before you upload it: required fields, price format, availability values, variants, GTINs and checkout flags.
Detect uses link and image_link columns to spot a Google-compatible feed.
What OpenAI's product feed needs
ChatGPT reads product data from a feed you upload to OpenAI. The Stable spec has nine required fields on every row: item_id, title, description, url, brand, seller_name, image_url, availability and price. Everything else is optional or only needed for variants, Ads or checkout.
| Field | Rule the validator checks |
|---|---|
price, sale_price | Amount, a space, then the ISO currency code: 79.99 USD. USD uses two decimals. A sale price must be above zero and below the price, in the same currency. |
availability | Exactly in_stock, out_of_stock, pre_order, backorder or unknown. Anything else rejects the row. |
| Booleans | Lowercase true or false in CSV and TSV files. |
| URLs | Absolute http or https links, with no username or password in them. |
gtin | 8, 12, 13 or 14 digits with a valid check digit, no spaces or dashes. |
| Variants | listing_has_variations=true, a group_id different from item_id, and a variant_dict JSON object with the same option names across the group. |
| Checkout | is_eligible_checkout=true also needs seller_privacy_policy and seller_tos URLs, and search must not be off. |
| Placeholders | null, n/a and similar aren't allowed. Leave unknown optional values empty. |
The sample feed
- Rows
- 7
- Errors
- “In Stock”, “$28.00”, checkout on without policy URLs (2), a relative url
- Warnings
- “TRUE”, HTML description, sale above price, bad GTIN check digit, “n/a”, “24 USD”
5 errors and 6 warnings. 3 rows have no errors. The cleaned file fixes 5 values; the price with no currency code and the missing policy URLs have to be fixed at the source.
Getting the feed to OpenAI
- 01
Apply for access
Product feed onboarding for ChatGPT is open to approved partners. OpenAI links the application form from its Commerce docs.
- 02
Check a small sample
OpenAI recommends starting with about 100 items that include every required field.
- 03
Compress and upload
Upload over SFTP as
csv.gz,tsv.gz,jsonl.gzor parquet, in UTF-8. Keep the same file name and overwrite it with each new snapshot. - 04
Refresh at least daily
Each upload is a full snapshot. Products left out of later snapshots expire within 14 days.
The validator also recognizes OpenAI's Google-compatible profile (columns like link and image_link). In that profile preorder replaces pre_order, preorder and backorder items need an availability_date, and each row needs a gtin or mpn unless identifier_exists is no.
Common reasons rows are rejected
- Outdated field names. Aliases like
id,item_group_idandenable_searchstill work, but sending an alias and the new name together means one is ignored. - Prices copied from the storefront, such as
$28.00or1,299.00 USD. Use28.00 USDand1299.00 USD. - Title-case values like
In Stock. Values are case-sensitive. - HTML descriptions. The spec asks for plain text.

Questions people ask
What file formats does OpenAI accept for product feeds?
The file upload path takes parquet (preferred), jsonl.gz, csv.gz and tsv.gz, in UTF-8. This validator checks the CSV or TSV before you compress it.
Can anyone upload a ChatGPT product feed?
Not yet. OpenAI says onboarding product feeds is open to approved partners, who apply through a form linked from the Commerce docs.
Does a valid feed guarantee my products show in ChatGPT?
No. OpenAI's spec says eligibility doesn't guarantee display. It only makes sure your rows can be ingested.
Which countries does the feed cover?
The standard OpenAI-format upload targets the US. Other markets need OpenAI to confirm them for your feed; a currency or URL doesn't change the market.
Is my feed uploaded when I check it?
No. The file is read in your browser and never leaves your computer.
