AI Agent Store Preview
See what AI shopping agents get from your Shopify store: the UCP profile, product data, structured data and crawler access.
How AI agents read a Shopify store
AI shopping agents get store data in a few ways. This preview reads the public parts of each one.
| Source | What it holds | Where |
|---|---|---|
| UCP profile | Protocol version, the agent endpoint, capabilities such as catalog search and checkout, payment handlers | /.well-known/ucp |
| Storefront Catalog | Product search and lookup tools agents call with their own profile | POST /api/ucp/mcp |
| Product data | Title, description, price, variants, SKUs, barcodes and images | /products/{handle}.js |
| Structured data | Product JSON-LD on the page that crawlers read | The product page |
| robots.txt | Which AI crawlers may fetch your pages | /robots.txt |
The catalog tools need a POST request that carries the agent's own UCP profile, so this preview doesn't call them. It shows the same store's public product data instead.
Improving what agents get
- 01
Add barcodes
In Shopify, open each product and fill in Barcode (ISBN, UPC, GTIN, etc.) for every variant. Agents and Google match products by GTIN.
- 02
Write fuller descriptions
Agents answer questions from your description. Cover materials, sizing, compatibility and who the product is for.
- 03
Set product type and vendor
They help agents place the product in the right category and brand.
- 04
Check robots.txt
Blocking OAI-SearchBot, Claude-SearchBot or PerplexityBot keeps you out of those assistants' search results. Blocking training crawlers (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, Google-Extended) doesn't.
How the readiness score works
Each check has a weight from 1 to 3; the UCP profile weighs 3. Passes earn the full weight, warnings half, fails nothing, and the score is points earned ÷ points possible × 100. Training crawlers and vendor details are shown but not scored.
- UCP profile, catalog and checkout capabilities
- Description length, images, barcodes, SKUs and product type
- Product structured data and its key fields
- Access for Googlebot and the AI search crawlers
Questions people ask
What is the UCP profile?
A JSON file at /.well-known/ucp that tells agents which Universal Commerce Protocol version the store speaks, where its agent endpoint is and what agents can do, such as search the catalog or check out.
Do I need to set anything up for the UCP profile?
The stores we tested publish one without any setup, but Shopify doesn't say every store has one. If the preview says it's missing, check with Shopify Support.
Should I block GPTBot?
That's a business choice. GPTBot collects training data. Blocking it doesn't remove you from ChatGPT search, which uses OAI-SearchBot.
Does it work on WooCommerce?
No. The product and UCP endpoints are Shopify's. On other platforms, focus on product structured data and robots.txt.
Why does the price look different from my storefront?
The product endpoint returns prices in the shopper's presentment currency, in cents. The preview converts cents to a decimal and uses the store's active currency.
