Shopify Favicon Generator
Upload a logo and get every favicon size Shopify needs, plus the theme.liquid tags to add them.
Create a text icon
Use initials and brand colors, or upload an existing logo below. All image processing happens in your browser.
Upload a square-ish logo or icon
What it generates
Upload any image and this crops it to a square (centered) and resizes it to six common favicon sizes: 16, 32 and 48px for browser tabs, 180px for Apple touch icons, and 192 and 512px for Android and PWA use. Everything happens in your browser using the canvas API; nothing is uploaded anywhere.
Modern browsers and search engines accept PNG favicons without needing a legacy multi-resolution .ico file, so this tool only produces PNGs, referenced with standard <link rel="icon"> tags.
Adding it to your theme
- 01
Upload each size as a theme asset
In Online Store → Themes → Edit code, open Assets, click Add a new asset, and upload each downloaded PNG, keeping the file names (favicon-16.png, favicon-32.png, and so on).
- 02
Paste the link tags
Open layout/theme.liquid and paste the generated
<link>tags inside<head>, replacing any existing favicon tags your theme already has. - 03
Check search results separately
Google decides on its own whether to show a favicon in search results, and it can take time to update even once everything is correct.
Questions people ask
Do I still need a .ico file?
No. Google explicitly accepts PNG (along with BMP, GIF, JPEG, PPM and TIFF) for the favicon it shows in search results, and every modern browser supports a PNG favicon referenced with a <link> tag.
Why does Google still show my old favicon or none at all?
Google caches favicons and doesn't guarantee one will show even when every requirement is met. Make sure the favicon URL is stable (don't rename the file later) and isn't blocked by robots.txt.
What size should I prioritize?
Google recommends a favicon bigger than 48×48px, so upload the 192×192 PNG for the main <link rel="icon"> tag if you can only add one, and use the smaller sizes for browser tabs.
My logo isn't square. What happens?
It's cropped to a centered square before resizing. For a cleaner result, start with a square version of your logo or icon rather than a wide wordmark.
