How it works

Shopify's local delivery zones take a comma-and-space separated list of postal codes, up to 3,000 characters, up to 10 zones per location. This tool computes which ZIP codes fall within a straight-line radius of a center point using the haversine formula, then formats the result to paste directly into that field.

You need a file with ZIP code, latitude and longitude columns. The sample file included here is an illustrative set of Boston-area codes only, not a full dataset: for real use, download a free ZIP centroid file from the US Census Bureau's Gazetteer files or simplemaps.com and upload that instead.

Setting it up in Shopify

    Get your center point

    In Google Maps, right-click your store or warehouse location and choose "Copy coordinates."

    Upload a ZIP centroid file and set the radius

    Use the Census or simplemaps file linked above for a real coverage area.

    Paste the result

    Settings > Shipping and delivery > Local delivery > your location > postal codes.

Questions people ask

Why isn't the bundled sample file enough on its own?

It only covers about two dozen Boston-area ZIP codes with approximate centroids, meant to show the tool working. A real local delivery zone needs your actual area's full ZIP list with accurate coordinates.

What if my list is over the 3,000-character limit?

The tool warns you and trims the list. Split your delivery area into two zones (Shopify allows up to 10 per location) or shrink the radius.

Does this account for driving distance, not just straight-line?

No, it's straight-line (as-the-crow-flies) distance. For a delivery radius that should follow roads, treat the result as a starting point and trim ZIP codes on the edge manually.

Can I use Canadian postal codes?

Shopify's local delivery field also accepts postal codes for other countries; this tool works with any ZIP/postal code plus latitude/longitude, whatever country they're from.
