Welcome Email Series Generator
Write a 3 to 5 email welcome series for new subscribers: the welcome and offer, your brand story, bestsellers and a first-purchase reminder.
What each email does
| Send | Job | |
|---|---|---|
| Welcome | Immediately | Thank them, say what you sell, and give the sign-up offer |
| Our story | Day 1 | Why the store exists and what makes the products different |
| Bestsellers | Day 3 | Help them choose, with one line on who each product suits |
| Questions answered | Day 5 (5-email series) | Shipping, returns and sizing, from your details |
| Last reminder | Day 6 or 7 | The offer's end date, or “Need help choosing?” with no offer |
The 3-email series drops the last two and adds a short offer reminder to the bestsellers email. The 4-email series skips Questions answered and sends the last reminder on day 6.
Getting the brand story right
The story email only uses what you write in the main box, so give it the real version: who started the store, what problem they were trying to solve, and what you do differently. Add the founder's name under Details and the email is written from their point of view.
Anything missing comes back as a placeholder, such as [Why you started the store], rather than an invented backstory. Fill those in before the flow goes live.
Setting it up
- 01
Shopify
In Apps > Messaging > Automations, click Create automation and pick Welcome new subscribers with a discount series (or ...with a discount email for a single email). Paste in the copy and match the waits to the Send lines.
- 02
Klaviyo
Create a flow with the Added to list trigger on your newsletter list, add time delays to match each Send line, and add a filter so anyone who places an order leaves the flow.
- 03
WooCommerce
Run the series from an email platform connected to your store, triggered when someone joins your newsletter list.
Pitfalls
- Stop the series after the first order. Nobody wants a “last chance for 10% off” email the day after they paid full price.
- Set the discount up first. Create the code, its expiry and any minimum spend in your store before the flow goes live, and make the emails match.
- Only subscribers get it. Shopify Messaging automations go to customers subscribed to email marketing by default.
- Include the legal basics. Under the US CAN-SPAM Act, marketing emails need your postal address and a working opt-out.
Questions people ask
How many emails should a welcome series have?
Three to five over about a week is a common starting point. Use 3 if you send a lot of campaigns anyway, and 5 if people usually need time to choose.
Do I need a discount in the welcome email?
No. Pick No offer and the series leans on your story and bestsellers, and the last email offers help choosing instead. Check what a discount costs you with the discount break-even calculator.
When should the first email go out?
Immediately after sign-up, while they're still thinking about your store. It also delivers any code they signed up for.
What if someone buys during the series?
They should leave the welcome flow and get your post-purchase emails instead. Write those with the post-purchase email generator.
