28 tax rates. Rates last checked 30 Sep 2026 against the European Commission, GOV.UK, the Canada Revenue Agency and provincial tax offices, business.gov.au and each US state's revenue department. Import at WooCommerce → Settings → Tax → Standard rates → Import CSV. Each row goes into the tax class named in its last column (blank means Standard).

Greece is GR in WooCommerce, not EL as in EU VAT tables. The file already uses GR.

How the file is built

WooCommerce imports tax rates from a CSV with exactly 10 columns: Country code, State code, Postcode / ZIP, City, Rate %, Tax name, Priority, Compound, Shipping and Tax class. The generator writes one row per country, province or state you pick, using the same headers WooCommerce uses when it exports rates.

Default settings

United Kingdom

EU
All 27 member states, standard rates
Shipping
Taxed (Shipping column = 1)

28 rows: GB at 20.0000 plus the 27 EU standard rates, from Luxembourg's 17% to Hungary's 27%, all in the Standard class.

  • Canada: GST or HST at priority 1, and BC PST, Manitoba RST, Quebec QST and Saskatchewan PST at priority 2 so they're added on top. None is compound: QST has been charged on the price before GST since 1 January 2013.
  • Reduced rates go into WooCommerce's default reduced-rate class and UK zero rates into zero-rate. The class comes from the last column, whichever tab you import from.
  • Greece is GR in WooCommerce. EU VAT tables use EL, and that code won't match customers' addresses.

US statewide base rates, each read on the state's own site:

Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire and Oregon have no statewide sales tax. Rhode Island and Utah are left out: their revenue sites blocked automated checks on the check date, so we couldn't confirm the rate there. Add them by hand after checking tax.ri.gov and tax.utah.gov.

Importing the rates, and when not to use them

  1. 01

    Turn on taxes

Go to WooCommerce → Settings → General and tick Enable tax rates and calculations.

  2. 02

    Open the tax rates table

Go to WooCommerce → Settings → Tax → Standard rates.

  3. 03

    Import

Click Import CSV under the table, upload the file, then check the rows in each class tab.

  • US stores: state base rates undercharge almost everywhere, because counties, cities and districts add their own rates by address. Most US stores are better off with automated tax, such as WooCommerce Tax or a sales tax service.
  • EU stores: a EUR 10,000 threshold applies to distance sales to consumers in other EU countries. Below it, those sales may be taxed in your own country; above it you charge the customer's country's rate, and the One Stop Shop lets you declare it all in one EU country. Only import the rates you actually have to charge.
  • Reduced rates depend on the product category. Check with each country's VAT office before moving products into the Reduced rate class.
  • Rates change. Re-check them against the sources before relying on the file, and after any budget announcement.

Questions people ask

What columns does the WooCommerce tax CSV need?

Exactly 10: Country code, State code, Postcode / ZIP, City, Rate %, Tax name, Priority, Compound, Shipping and Tax class. The importer rejects a file with any other number of columns.

Which tax class do imported rates go into?

The one named in the Tax class column, as a slug such as reduced-rate. Blank means Standard. A slug that doesn't exist in your store also falls back to Standard.

Is Quebec's QST compound?

No. Since 1 January 2013 QST is charged at 9.975% on the price before GST, so both rows use Compound 0 with QST at priority 2.

Are these rates safe to use for my US store?

Only as a starting point. They're state base rates, and local rates vary by address. Automated tax gives you address-level rates.

How do I delete the rates if I import the wrong file?

Select the rows in the tax table and click Remove selected row(s), or use WooCommerce → Status → Tools → Delete WooCommerce tax rates to clear them all.
