Why a plain HTML template beats eBay's rich text editor
eBay's description box strips a lot of formatting, and its rich text editor produces messy markup that looks different across devices. This tool builds a self-contained HTML block instead: a heading, intro text, a feature list, a specifications table and your condition, shipping and returns notes, all with inline styles so it renders the same everywhere eBay allows HTML.
- No active content. No scripts, forms, iframes or external stylesheets, which is what eBay's listing policy requires and what its safest-buyer-experience recommendations ask for.
- Fluid width. Every element uses percentage or max-width sizing, so the listing reads correctly on a phone, which is where most eBay traffic browses from.
- Photo URLs, not uploads. Your main photos still belong in eBay's photo uploader. Only add image links here for size charts or extra detail shots, and only https addresses: eBay blocks http images in descriptions.
Using the template on a listing
- 01
Fill in your details
Add a heading, short intro, features (one per line) and specifications (Name: value, one per line). Leave any section blank to skip it.
- 02
Copy the generated HTML
The preview panel shows exactly how it will look. Copy the code with the button above the output.
- 03
Paste into eBay
In Seller Hub, create or edit your listing, switch the Description editor to HTML (not the visual editor), paste the code, then switch back to preview to confirm it renders.
Check your finished listing on both eBay's desktop and mobile app views before you publish. Some rare eBay templates still strip certain inline styles, so a quick look catches anything that didn't survive.
Questions people ask
Can I use HTML in an eBay listing description?
Yes, as long as it has no scripts, forms, iframes or other active content. eBay's own rich text editor doesn't support tables or careful layout, which is why a hand-built HTML block works better for structured listings.
Why does eBay block some of my HTML?
eBay's listing policy bans active content (JavaScript, forms, embedded video players, tracking pixels) for security and consistency. This template avoids all of it, so it should paste in cleanly.
Should I still use eBay's photo uploader?
Yes, always add your main photos there so they show in search and the gallery. Only use image links inside the description for extras like a size chart, and only from https addresses.
Does this work on eBay.co.uk and other eBay sites?
Yes. The generated HTML doesn't depend on the eBay site, only on your listing's Description field accepting HTML, which works the same way across eBay's country sites.
