Write the manufacturer, responsible person and safety details GPSR requires on EU product listings.
GPSR requirements for sellers: what a listing must show
The EU General Product Safety Regulation (EU) 2023/988 applies from 13 December 2024. Article 19 says any product offered online to EU consumers must clearly show at least:
| Article 19 | What to show | Example |
|---|---|---|
| (a) Manufacturer | Name or registered trade name or trade mark, postal address and electronic address | Musterweg 12, 91054 Erlangen, Germany, info@… |
| (b) Responsible person | Name, postal and electronic address of the EU-based responsible person, if the manufacturer is outside the EU | An EU importer or authorized representative |
| (c) Identification | A picture of the product, its type and any other identifier | Model RB-7, batch 2026-08, EAN |
| (d) Warnings | Any warning or safety information required on the product or its documents, in a language buyers understand | Not suitable for children under 36 months |
Article 19 applies even to products covered by other EU product laws, such as toys or electronics. The generator uses only the details you give it and leaves a [placeholder] for anything required that's missing.
Where it goes on Etsy, Amazon and Shopify
Article 22(9) makes online marketplaces give sellers a place to enter this information for each product. Use the Marketplace fields format to get each part separately.
- 01
Etsy
Add an economic operator under Shop Manager → Settings → Partners you work with → Add economic operator, then fill the Manufacturers and Product safety info fields in each listing form.
- 02
Amazon
Enter the manufacturer, responsible person and safety details in the product safety and compliance fields when you edit the listing in Seller Central. Field names change, so follow Seller Central's current GPSR help page.
- 03
Shopify
Paste the Product page block into the product description, or store the details in product metafields (Settings → Metafields and metaobjects) and show them on the product page with your theme editor.
- 04
WooCommerce
Paste the block into the product description or a custom product tab, so it sits next to the product photos.
Common mistakes
- No EU responsible person for goods made outside the EU. A product can't be placed on the EU market without an EU-based economic operator responsible for it.
- Warnings in the wrong language. Safety information must be in a language buyers in the country where you sell can easily understand. Pick the language in the tool for each market.
- Adding generic warnings that aren't on the product. List what's on the label or in the instructions, no more and no less.
- Treating this as legal advice. It isn't. The tool formats the information; it can't check that your product is safe or compliant.
Questions people ask
Is this legal advice?
No. It formats the information Article 19 lists, but it can't check your product's safety or tell you which other EU laws apply.
Do I need an EU responsible person?
Yes, if the manufacturer isn't established in the EU. It can be an EU importer, authorized representative or fulfillment service provider, and its details must appear on the listing.
Does GPSR apply to handmade items?
It applies to consumer products sold by traders, whatever their size. If you make the item yourself, you're the manufacturer, so your own name and address go in the manufacturer section.
Does GPSR apply to second-hand goods?
Yes. It covers new, used, repaired and reconditioned products, but not antiques, or items sold as needing repair that are clearly marked as such.
Which language should the safety information be in?
One that consumers in the country where you sell can easily understand, as that country decides. If you sell to several countries, generate a version for each language.
