Shopify Scripts to Functions Converter
Paste your deactivated Shopify Script and find out whether a native setting already replaces it, or which Function to build instead.
Shopify Scripts is gone
Shopify deprecated the Script Editor on 30 June 2026. Every script that was still live was deactivated at that point and no longer runs at checkout, so if a discount, shipping rule or payment method your script controlled has quietly stopped working, this is why.
Check for a native setting before building anything
| Script did | Check first |
|---|---|
| A simple percentage or fixed discount | Discounts in Shopify admin: automatic discounts, tiered/"Buy X get Y" discounts and discount combination settings cover a lot of what scripts used to do by hand |
| A shipping rate rule | Settings > Shipping and delivery: rate names, free-shipping thresholds and zone-based rates |
| Something those settings can't express | A Shopify Function (see below) |
If you genuinely need a Function
- Discount function: replaces a line item, cart or shipping discount script.
- Delivery customization function: replaces a script that hid, reordered or renamed shipping rates.
- Payment customization function: replaces a script that hid, reordered or renamed payment methods.
Functions are developer work: code written in JavaScript or Rust, built and deployed through an app with Shopify CLI, not pasted into admin. The tool gives you a labeled scaffold to start from, and the exact input/output shape for your chosen target lives at shopify.dev's Function API reference, which changes with the API version, so check it before you ship.
Questions people ask
When was Shopify Scripts deprecated?
30 June 2026. Every previously published script was deactivated then, so a checkout customization that's stopped working around that date is almost certainly this.
Do I need a developer to replace my script?
Only if it needs a Function. Many scripts turn out to be replaceable by a native Discounts or Shipping setting, which any store owner can set up without code.
Can I paste a Function's code straight into Shopify admin?
No. Functions are built and deployed as an app extension through Shopify CLI, unlike the old Script Editor which ran code pasted directly into checkout settings.
What language are Functions written in?
JavaScript or Rust are the common choices, compiled to WebAssembly; Rust is Shopify's recommendation for performance-sensitive logic.
The scaffold has comments instead of real code in places. Why?
The exact input and output field names for each Function target can change between API versions, so the tool marks those parts for you to confirm against the current reference rather than guessing and shipping something wrong.
