Shopify Broken Link Checker

Finds 404s and redirect chains from a page's links, then builds a Shopify redirect CSV to fix them.

What it checks

Starting from one page (usually your homepage), it reads every same-site link on the page and checks a sample of them, limited to a handful of fetches per run, flagging 404s and multi-hop redirect chains.

It isn't a full-site crawl: for wider coverage, run it again starting from other important pages, like a collection page, your footer, or an older blog post.

Fixing what it finds

Every 404 it finds goes into a downloadable CSV with the exact Redirect from and Redirect to headers Shopify's importer expects. It maps each broken link to your homepage as a safe starting point; edit the Redirect to column to point at the real replacement page before importing.

  1. 01

    Download the CSV

Edit the "Redirect to" column for each row.

  2. 02

    Import it

Shopify admin: Content > Menus > URL redirects > Import.

For a redirect chain (a link that bounces through more than one hop before landing), point the original link straight at the final destination instead, which is faster for shoppers and crawlers alike.

Questions people ask

Why didn't it check every link on the page?

It's capped at about 6 fetches per run, so it samples a handful of links rather than checking everything at once. Run it again from other pages for broader coverage.

Does it check links inside images or JavaScript-rendered content?

It reads <a href> links in the page's raw HTML, not links added dynamically by JavaScript after the page loads.

Can I use the CSV directly without editing it?

You can, but every row maps to your homepage by default. Editing the destination to the real replacement page (a similar product, the right collection) gives shoppers and search engines a better landing spot.

What counts as a redirect chain?

More than one hop between the original link and its final destination. A single redirect is normal and fine; chains of two or more add latency and can lose some SEO value at each hop.
