Why Isn't My Shopify Store on Google?
Find what's keeping your Shopify store out of Google: password page, noindex, robots.txt, sitemap, domain setup and Search Console.
The usual reasons a Shopify store isn't on Google
| Cause | How to fix it |
|---|---|
| Password page is on | Online Store → Preferences, turn off password protection. Trial stores need a paid plan and a business address first. |
| noindex tag | Check theme.liquid and SEO apps for <meta name="robots" content="noindex">. |
| robots.txt blocks Google | Undo custom rules in the robots.txt.liquid template. |
| No sitemap submitted | Verify the store in Search Console and submit sitemap.xml. |
| Wrong primary domain | Settings → Domains: set your custom domain as primary so every other domain redirects to it. |
| Products not published | Make sure products are available on the Online Store sales channel. |
| The store is new | Nothing is wrong. Crawling takes time; Shopify notes changes can take a couple of weeks to show. |

Questions people ask
How long does it take a new Shopify store to show up on Google?
Google doesn't guarantee a time. Shopify notes changes can take a couple of weeks. Submitting your sitemap and requesting indexing for the homepage helps Google find you sooner.
Can Google index my store while the password page is on?
No. While the store is password-protected, Google can't see any of your pages or your sitemap.
Why does Google show my myshopify.com address?
Usually because the custom domain isn't set as primary. Set it under Settings → Domains so the other domains redirect to it.
Do I need a Search Console verification tag if I verified with DNS?
No. A Domain property is verified by the DNS TXT record. The HTML tag is only needed for a URL-prefix property.
Everything passes but I'm still not on Google. Now what?
Use Search Console's URL Inspection tool on your homepage to see Google's view and request indexing. Check the Pages report for any excluded URLs.
