Shopify Sitemap Checker
Child sitemap counts plus a sample of URLs checked for 404s, redirects and noindex, exportable to CSV.
How Shopify's sitemap is structured
Shopify generates sitemap.xml automatically as an index of child sitemaps: sitemap_products_1.xml, sitemap_collections_1.xml, sitemap_pages_1.xml, sitemap_blogs_1.xml, numbered as each fills up. You never upload or edit this file yourself.
This checker fetches sitemap.xml, lists every child file it finds, and opens a sample of them (limited to a handful of fetches per run) to count URLs and spot any child sitemap that's failing to load, which would hide those URLs from Google entirely.
Using the results
Submit sitemap.xml once in Google Search Console (left menu: Sitemaps); Shopify keeps the file updated automatically after that.
Download the CSV of sampled child sitemaps and their URL counts to sanity-check nothing's obviously missing, for example zero product URLs when you know you have products.
Questions people ask
Why does it only sample some child sitemaps?
To stay within the checker's fetch budget (about 6 requests per run). Large stores can have many child sitemaps; open the rest directly if you need exact counts for all of them.
My sitemap didn't load at all. Why?
Password-protected stores hide their sitemap entirely. Otherwise check Shopify's status page, or that no app or redirect rule is intercepting /sitemap.xml.
Does a bigger sitemap help SEO?
Not by itself. It's just a discovery aid for crawlers; what matters is that the URLs in it are real, indexable pages.
Should I submit the child sitemaps individually too?
No, submitting the top-level sitemap.xml is enough. Search Console follows the index down into every child sitemap automatically.
