Product Page Grader
Paste a product URL and get an SEO and conversion score with a checklist of what to fix.
The product page checklist
The grader fetches the page the way Google first sees it and runs two sets of checks.
| SEO | Conversion |
|---|---|
| Title tag and meta description | Price visible near the title |
| One H1 with the product name | Add to cart button |
| Indexable, with a canonical tag | Stock status |
| Product JSON-LD: name, image, price, currency | At least 3 product images |
| Availability, brand, GTIN or SKU | Description of 150 words or more |
| Shipping and return details in the markup | Reviews or ratings |
| Alt text on images | Shipping and returns info near the button |
| Open Graph tags, mobile viewport | Trust signals: payment icons, guarantee, contact |
How the grade is worked out
Each check has a weight from 1 to 3 (price, add to cart, indexability and the required structured data weigh 3). A pass earns the full weight, a warning half and a fail nothing. SEO and conversion are scored separately, then averaged.
Worked example
- SEO: 18 points passed, 4 in warnings, 3 failed
- (18 + 2) ÷ 25 × 100 = 80
- Conversion
- 70
(80 + 70) ÷ 2 = 75
The description and title length targets are rules of thumb, not Google limits. Google says there's no maximum title length, but it cuts long titles to fit the screen.
Fixing issues across every product
- 01
Fix the template, not each page
Missing structured data, extra H1s and absent shipping info usually come from the theme. On Shopify, edit the product section under Online Store → Themes → Edit code. On WooCommerce, edit the single product template or your SEO plugin's settings.
- 02
Fill product data
Add barcodes (GTINs), brand and SKUs in each product's inventory fields. They flow into the structured data.
- 03
Write longer descriptions
Cover benefits, specs, sizing and care. The Shopify product description generator gives you a first draft.
- 04
Re-grade
Run the grader again, then test the URL in Google's Rich Results Test.
Questions people ask
Why does it say my price isn't visible when I can see it?
Some themes add the price with JavaScript after the page loads. The grader reads the HTML the server sends, which is also what Google reads first. Rendering the price in the HTML is safer.
Does the grade include page speed?
No. Speed needs a real browser test. For WooCommerce stores, use the WooCommerce speed test.
Why is having more than one H1 a warning?
It isn't an error for Google, but one clear H1 with the product name makes the page's topic obvious to search engines and screen readers.
Can I grade a collection or category page?
It's built for single product pages. On other pages the product checks will fail because there's no single product to find.
Which fields does Google need in product schema?
For merchant listings: name, image, and an offer with price and currency. Availability, brand, GTIN, shipping and returns are recommended.
