Shopify publishes a WooCommerce migration guide and has its own Store Migration app for products, customers and orders. Data cleanup and integrations are where migrations vary most, so a developer needs to see your store to price it exactly. Send me your store URL through the Hire me button for a fixed quote.

How the migration estimate works

A migration is more than copying products. The calculator prices the parts that take time: an audit and plan, the new theme, products and categories, customers and orders, pages and posts, 301 redirects for every old URL, and replacing apps and integrations.

Migration cost = (hours for each line item + 12% to 18% for project management, testing and launch) × hourly rate + theme + migration app
Data-heavy lines scale with your platform: Magento and custom platforms are weighted higher because their data usually needs more mapping.

The order a Shopify migration runs in

  1. 01

    Export your data

From WooCommerce, export products under Products → All Products → Export. Export customers and orders too, or use a migration app that reads them directly.

  2. 02

Import products, then customers, then orders

Shopify's help center says the order matters: products first, then customers, then historical orders. Shopify's own Store Migration app, or a paid migration service, can move the data for you.

  3. 03

    Rebuild the storefront

Set up the theme, pages, navigation and apps, then shipping, taxes and payments.

  4. 04

Add redirects before you switch the domain

Map every old URL to its new Shopify URL under Content → Menus → View URL Redirects, or import them as a CSV. Shopify allows up to 100,000 redirects, or 20 million on Plus.

  5. 05

    Test and launch

Place test orders, check redirects and tracking, then connect your domain.

Where migrations go over budget

  • Messy product data. Variants, custom attributes and missing images take the most cleanup, especially from Magento.
  • Redirects left to the end. Missing 301s cost you search rankings. Build the redirect map early.
  • Customer accounts. Check whether your migration app can carry customer logins over. If it can't, plan an email inviting customers to activate their account on the new store.
  • Integrations. ERPs, 3PLs and custom plugins may need rebuilding, not just reinstalling.
  • Over 100,000 URLs. Outside Plus, prioritize the URLs with traffic and backlinks.

Questions people ask

How much does it cost to migrate to Shopify?

A small store with clean data might be a few days' work; a large Magento catalog with integrations can take weeks. Enter your numbers above to see a range at your developer's rate.

Will I lose my SEO rankings when I move to Shopify?

Rankings can dip during any move. Redirecting every old URL to its new page with a 301 and keeping titles and content consistent limits the impact.

Can I migrate orders and customers?

Yes. Shopify supports importing customers and historical orders through migration apps or its APIs, after your products are in.

How long does a Shopify migration take?

Divide the hours estimate by the hours per week your developer can give it. Allow extra time for testing and for you to review the new store.

Are these figures a quote?

No. They're typical market ranges based on the size of your store and the hourly rate you enter. A developer needs to look at your data to quote exactly.
