What goes into the cost of Shopify Plus

The platform fee is only part of the bill. Stores on Plus usually pay more for payments, apps and development than for the plan itself, so the calculator adds everything up.

Monthly cost = platform fee + variable fee + extra stores + card or gateway fees + apps + agency retainer + (build cost ÷ months in the term)
Card fees use Shopify's published US Plus rate of 2.25% + 30¢. With another gateway, Shopify adds 0.20% per transaction on top of your gateway's fees.
ItemPublished figure (US)

Plus, 1-year term$2,500 a month
Variable platform feeMay apply, depending on revenue and business model (in your quote)

Example: the default numbers

Sales
$250,000 a month at a $110 average order (2,273 orders)
Platform fee
$2,300 (3-year term)
Card fees
2.25% × $250,000 + 30¢ × 2,273 = $6,306.82
Apps, agency, build
$1,500 + $3,000 + ($40,000 ÷ 36) = $5,611.11
Advanced with the same sales
$299 + 2.5% × $250,000 + 30¢ × 2,273 = $7,230.82

Plus costs $14,218 a month in total (5.7% of sales). On platform and card fees alone it's $1,376 a month more than Advanced. The fees even out at about $800,400 a month in sales: ($2,300 − $299) ÷ (2.5% − 2.25%).

Using the number in a Plus decision

  1. 01

    Start from real sales

Use a normal month from Analytics → Reports in your Shopify admin, not your peak month.

  2. 02

    Price your current stack

Settings → Billing shows what you pay for apps today. Check each app's pricing page for a separate Plus tier.

  3. 03

    Enter your quote

Once Shopify sends a quote, pick My quote and add any variable platform fee. The published prices are starting points.

  4. 04

Decide on features, not only fees

Below the break-even, Plus is a feature purchase. List the Plus features you'll actually use before you sign a 1- or 3-year term.

Limits and pitfalls

  • Variable fee. Shopify says a revenue-based platform fee may apply, and it differs for B2B and direct-to-consumer brands. It isn't published, so it's 0 here until you enter it.
  • Card rates vary. Shopify says Plus card rates vary by country. Premium and international cards cost more than the standard rate used here.
  • Extra stores. Ten stores are included. Shopify's pricing page lists $300 a month for each store beyond that in the US; confirm it in your quote.
  • Migration cost. A Plus move often comes with a rebuild. Spreading it over the term shows its true monthly weight. Try the migration cost calculator.

Questions people ask

How much is Shopify Plus a month?

In the US, Shopify lists $2,300 a month on a 3-year term and $2,500 a month on a 1-year term. A variable platform fee may be added depending on your revenue and business model.

At what revenue is Shopify Plus worth it?

On fees alone, with Shopify Payments at published US rates, Plus costs less than Advanced from about $800,000 a month in online sales. Many brands move earlier for features, which is a separate decision.

Does Shopify Plus charge transaction fees?

Not when you use Shopify Payments. With a third-party gateway, Shopify charges 0.20% per transaction on top of the gateway's own fees.

How many stores come with Shopify Plus?

One main store and nine expansion stores, so ten in total. More than ten means contacting Shopify, and there's a monthly charge per extra store.

Is the Plus fee billed monthly?

It's billed monthly, but you commit to a 1-year or 3-year term. The 3-year term has the lower monthly price.
