Effective APR
38.6%
A fee of 13% ($6,500) repaid over about 7.7 months works out to 38.6% a year as an APR.
- Total to repay
- $56,500
- Daily repayment
- $240
- Time to repay
- 236 days
Slower sales stretch the repayment and lower the APR. A strong month raises it, because you pay the same fee in less time. A factor rate isn't an interest rate: the fee is charged on the full amount even as you pay it down, so the APR is roughly double the fee spread over the term.

From factor rate to APR
Shopify Capital charges a fixed fee, not interest. Shopify shows it as a factor rate: the number the amount you receive is multiplied by to get the total you repay. You repay a set percentage of each day's sales, the remittance rate, until the total is paid.
Because the fee is fixed, how fast you repay decides the real cost. The calculator lays out the daily repayments and finds the interest rate that makes them worth exactly the amount you received, then states it as an APR (the daily rate × 365).
Example: the default offer
- Offer
- $50,000 at a factor rate of 1.13
- Total to repay
- $50,000 × 1.13 = $56,500 (a $6,500 fee)
- Daily repayment
- 12% × $2,000 = $240
- Time to repay
- $56,500 ÷ $240 = 235.4, so 236 days (about 7.7 months)
The effective APR is 38.6%. If sales were 25% higher it would rise to 48.1%, because the same fee is paid over less time.
Comparing Shopify Capital, Wayflyer and Amazon Lending
| Lender | How the cost is shown | How you repay |
|---|---|---|
| Shopify Capital (US) | Fixed fee as a factor rate (for example 13% of $100,000 is $13,000) | A percentage of daily sales |
| Wayflyer | A total cost agreed upfront | A percentage of daily or weekly revenue |
| Amazon Lending | Varies by product: fixed interest rate on term loans, a fixed fee on cash advances | Equal payments on term loans, or tied to sales |
- 01
Enter the offer
Use the amount, the factor rate (total to repay ÷ amount) and the remittance rate from the offer page.
- 02
Use normal daily sales
Divide a typical month's sales by 30. A peak month makes repayment look faster and the APR higher.
- 03
For fixed payments
Switch to Fixed monthly payments and enter the term. Work the factor out from the total you'll repay.
Things to know before you accept
- Minimum payments. In the US, Shopify requires 30% of the total by the 6-month mark and 60% by 12 months, and the loan must be repaid within 18 months.
- Paying early doesn't save money. Shopify says the cost stays the same if you pay off early, so the APR goes up.
- APR isn't everything. Repayments that shrink in a slow month protect your cash flow, which a fixed loan doesn't.
- Offers vary. Every figure here comes from your offer. Lenders set rates by your sales history and risk.
Questions people ask
Does Shopify Capital charge interest?
No. It charges a fixed borrowing cost shown as a factor rate or fixed fee. The fee doesn't change however fast you repay, so faster repayment means a higher effective APR.
How do I convert a factor rate to APR?
Work out the repayment schedule (total ÷ daily repayment gives the days), then find the rate at which those payments equal the amount received. This calculator does it for you.
How long do I have to repay Shopify Capital?
In the US, up to 18 months, with at least 30% of the total repaid by 6 months and 60% by 12 months.
Is Shopify Capital a loan or a cash advance?
In the US it's a loan issued by WebBank. In some other countries Shopify offers merchant cash advances. Check your country's Shopify Capital page.
Can I pay off Shopify Capital early?
Yes, you can pay any amount over $1 towards the balance, but the cost of the funds stays the same.
