Ad Hook Generator
Get 10 or 20 scroll-stopping opening lines for video or image ads, grouped by type: problem, curiosity, demonstration, proof, offer and contrast.
Six kinds of hook
- Problem: names a specific frustration your product fixes, described as a situation rather than something wrong with the viewer.
- Curiosity: a true, specific detail that makes people want the next line.
- Demonstration: the most surprising thing the product visibly does, in the first second.
- Proof: only used when you give real proof (a rating, a review count, press). Without it, those hooks become extra Demonstration hooks.
- Offer: only used when you give a real offer. Without one, those hooks become extra Problem hooks.
- Contrast: the old way against your product's way, or a common assumption it proves wrong.
Each hook has under 10 spoken words or a headline, plus 2 to 6 words of on-screen text and what the first frame shows, so you can film straight from it.
Testing hooks properly
- 01
Keep the rest of the ad the same
Change only the hook between versions, so any difference in results comes from the hook, not the whole ad.
- 02
Judge on the right number
For video, watch how many people keep watching past the first 3 seconds. For an image ad, watch click-through rate.
- 03
Give each hook enough spend
Let each one run long enough to be judged fairly before you pick a winner, then write new hooks in the winner's style.
Questions people ask
What's a good ad hook?
One that stops the right person scrolling, using something specific and true (a number, an object, a moment) rather than a vague promise. The rest of the ad has to be able to deliver on it.
Can I get hooks for image ads instead of video?
Yes, pick Image and text ads and each hook becomes a headline for the image plus the first line of the ad text.
Why are some groups missing from my results?
Proof hooks need real proof, and Offer hooks need a real offer. Without either, the generator folds those hooks into other groups instead of inventing numbers or a discount.
I need the full ad script, not just the opening line.
Use the Facebook ad copy generator for the primary text, headline and description, or the product video script generator for a full beat-by-beat script.
