One template, every product

Meta's Advantage+ catalog ads (previously called dynamic product ads) show one ad template with every product in your catalog, and Meta fills in that product's own details from your feed using template tags, wrapped in double curly braces.

  • {{product.name}}: the product's title from the feed
  • {{product.price}} and {{product.current_price}}: the regular price and the price after any sale set in the feed
  • {{product.brand}}: the brand, useful when your catalog carries several brands
  • {{product.custom_label_0}} to {{product.custom_label_4}}: your own feed labels, if you use them

Because the same template runs against every product, it can only include details true for the whole catalog. The generator writes 3 template sets, each from a different angle, so you can test which one converts best.

Setting it up

  1. 01

    Connect your catalog

In Meta Commerce Manager, make sure your product feed is connected and syncing correctly before you build the ad.

  2. 02

    Create the catalog ad

In Ads Manager, create an ad using your catalog as the ad's source, then paste the primary text, headline and description templates into the creative fields.

  3. 03

    Preview real products

Use the preview to check the template against several real products, especially the one with the longest title, before you publish.

Pitfalls

  • Never hardcode a name or price. Typing a real product name or price into the template defeats the point: it should read correctly for every item Meta pulls in.
  • Keep your feed accurate. The price tag shows whatever is in your feed, so an out-of-date feed shows an out-of-date price in the ad.
  • Remove store-wide offers as soon as they end, since the template keeps showing them to every product until you edit it.

Questions people ask

What is a dynamic or catalog ad?

One ad template that Meta fills in per product using tags from your product feed, so you don't write a separate ad for every item you sell.

What are the {{ }} tags in the template?

Feed placeholders such as {{product.name}} and {{product.price}} that Meta replaces with that product's real details at the moment the ad shows.

Can I show a sale price in the template?

Yes. Set sale prices in your feed's sale price field and pick Sale prices set in the feed: the template then uses {{product.current_price}}, which shows the sale price only while one is active.

What if my catalog has more than one brand?

Pick Several brands and the generator uses the {{product.brand}} tag so the right brand name shows for each item.

This is for retargeting. What about ads for new people?

Pick Broad (new people) as the audience, or write a standard product ad with the Facebook ad copy generator instead.
