Dates without a fixed day
- Amazon Prime Day (usually mid-July): Amazon sets and announces the exact dates itself, usually a few weeks ahead, in Seller Central and on amazon.com. Don't reuse last year's date.
- Back to School (late July through August): The biggest lift is usually the two to three weeks before local school start dates, which vary by state and country.
- Ramadan and Eid (shifts each year on the lunar calendar): Relevant for gifting and modest fashion categories. Check a lunar calendar converter for the specific year.
Plan email and ad creative 2 to 3 weeks before a date, and confirm carrier shipping cutoffs with USPS, UPS or FedEx closer to the time: they publish exact holiday deadlines each year, and the dates change.
Where the dates come from
Every date here is worked out from its actual definition rather than copied from last year's calendar, so it's correct for whichever year you pick. Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday of November, Black Friday is the day after it, Cyber Monday is the following Monday, and so on. Easter Sunday uses the standard Computus algorithm for the date of Easter in the Gregorian calendar.
| Date | How it's defined |
|---|---|
| Thanksgiving (US) | 4th Thursday of November |
| Black Friday | Day after Thanksgiving |
| Cyber Monday | Monday after Thanksgiving |
| Mother's Day (US) | 2nd Sunday of May |
| Father's Day (US) | 3rd Sunday of June |
| Labor Day (US) | 1st Monday of September |
A few dates, like Amazon Prime Day and Ramadan, don't follow a fixed rule (Prime Day is set by Amazon each year, and Ramadan follows the lunar calendar), so they're listed separately as a window rather than a specific date.
Planning around it
- Download the .ics file and import it into Google Calendar, Outlook or Apple Calendar to see these dates alongside your own planning.
- Work backward from the date. Creative and email sequences typically need 2 to 3 weeks of lead time; inventory and freight decisions need much longer, especially for Q4.
- Confirm shipping cutoffs separately. USPS, UPS and FedEx publish exact holiday shipping deadlines each year, usually in November; this calendar doesn't include them since they change annually and aren't set yet for a future year.
Questions people ask
Why isn't Amazon Prime Day given an exact date?
Amazon sets and announces Prime Day itself, usually just a few weeks ahead, and the date isn't fixed by any formula. Rather than guess or reuse a past date, this tool lists it as a window (usually mid-July) and points you to Amazon Seller Central for the confirmed date.
Is this calendar US-focused?
Mostly, since it's the most common trading calendar for stores selling internationally from the US. Boxing Day (UK, Canada, Australia) and Singles' Day (China) are included; a fully localized calendar for every market isn't.
Can I add these dates to my team's shared calendar?
Yes, that's what the .ics export is for. Most calendar apps let you import an .ics file directly or subscribe to it.
How far ahead should I plan for Black Friday and Cyber Monday?
Most retailers start inventory and ad planning 8 to 12 weeks out, with email and creative typically finalized 2 to 3 weeks before. The table shows exactly how many days away each date is.
