Online Store Name Generator
Get online store names checked against the rules that make a name work as a domain: no doubled letters, no awkward reading when run together, and a length that fits.
Names that survive becoming a domain
A store name is also its domain and its social handles, so this generator checks every idea against the rules that make a name easy to type and hard to mistype:
| Rule | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| 15 letters or fewer before the extension | Long domains are easy to mistype and hard to say out loud |
| No doubled letter where two words meet | "Clay" + "Yarn" becomes clayyarn.com, easy to misread |
| No word pairs that read as something else run together | The classic example: "Pen Island" reads as "penisland" |
| Spelled the way it sounds | The radio test: someone who hears the name can type it correctly |
For each of your top three, the generator adds a Domain check line that says plainly whether the name passes each of these tests.
Style and extension
- Brandable: short, distinctive names with no product words, built to grow with you.
- Descriptive: names that hint at what you sell, each paired with a distinctive word.
- Uses my name: built around the name you give.
Set the extension under Details if you don't want .com. If you already know a name or domain is taken, list it and the generator skips near spellings of it too.
Before you buy the domain
- 01
Search the trademark databases
Search the name in the USPTO trademark search if you sell in the US, and the WIPO Global Brand Database for other countries. Look for the same or similar-sounding names on related products, not only exact matches.
- 02
Search the web and social platforms
Search Google, Instagram, TikTok and the marketplaces you sell on for a business already using the name.
- 03
Check the domain and handles
Check the domain with a registrar and the social handles on each platform you plan to use. Nothing is yours until you register it.
- 04
Get a second opinion
Say your top three out loud to a few people and ask them to spell it back. Before you pay for a logo or packaging, have a trademark attorney run a clearance search.
Questions people ask
Why does domain length matter?
A shorter domain is easier to say, remember and type without a typo. The generator prefers domains of 15 letters or fewer before the extension, which is a guideline, not a hard cutoff.
What's a doubled letter and why avoid it?
It's when the last letter of one word matches the first letter of the next, like "Clay Yarn" becoming clayyarn.com. It's easy to misread as a typo or a different word, so the generator flags it.
The domain I want is taken. Now what?
List it under "Names or domains already taken" and generate again: the tool will avoid that name and close spellings of it. You can also try a different extension.
My domain doesn't load after I bought it. What do I check?
That's a DNS connection issue, not a naming one. Run it through the Shopify domain connection checker.
Can it check whether the domain is actually free?
No, it can't check registries, trademarks or social handles. Confirm availability with a registrar and run the trademark checks before you buy.
