Drop a sheet with a Handle column and one column per metafield here or browse files

CSV up to 25 MB. It's read in your browser and never uploaded.

How it works

Shopify reads metafield values from columns named like Material (product.metafields.custom.material). Most spreadsheets don't have headers in that format, so this tool builds them for you.

  1. 01

Upload a sheet with a Handle column

Plus one plain column per metafield, named however you like ("Material", "Warranty years"...).

  2. 02

    Describe each metafield

    One line per metafield: Column name = namespace.key : type, for example Material = custom.material : single_line_text_field.

  3. 03

    Download the result

Each matched column is renamed to Shopify's format, and every value is checked against its type.

TypeValid values

number_decimalA number, like 12.5

jsonValid JSON
list.*Several values, saved as a JSON array

Importing the result

Every metafield must already exist under Settings → Custom data → Products before you import values for it. Shopify won't create a new metafield definition from a CSV column alone.

Import the file at Products → Import with "Overwrite products with matching handles" checked, since the file only carries Handle and your metafield columns.

Questions people ask

What if I don't know the metafield's type?

Check Settings → Custom data → Products in your Shopify admin. Each metafield definition lists its type.

How do list metafields work?

Enter values separated by commas or semicolons in the sheet; the tool converts them into the JSON array Shopify expects, like ["S","M","L"].

Can I build more than one metafield at once?

Yes, add one line per metafield in the box. Each becomes its own output column.

What happens to blank cells?

They're left blank in the output and skipped by the type check, so existing values won't be touched for products missing that data.
