How the new price is worked out

New price = old price × (1 ± change %), or old price ± amount, then rounded to the ending you pick
Rounding works in cents. Up takes the next price with that ending, down takes the one below, and nearest takes whichever is closer.

Packable Rain Shell, with the default settings

Price
$89.00
Plus 10%
$97.90
Rounded up to .99
$97.99
Compare-at price
$119.00 → $130.90 → $130.99

The shell goes to $97.99, still shown as a sale against $130.99. Across the sample file, 9 variants change by +11.6% on average once rounding is included.

Compare-at price options

Leave them as they areCompare-at prices don't changeYou're changing items that aren't on sale

The tool warns you when a compare-at price ends up at or below the new price, because most themes won't show a sale then. It also flags any new price below the variant's Cost per item.

Importing the new prices

  1. 01

    Export your products

In Shopify, go to Products → Export, choose All products and a CSV format, then click Export products. Shopify emails the file for full exports.

  2. 02

    Set the change here

Drop the file above, pick the change, rounding, compare-at rule and filter, then check the Price changes table.

  3. 03

    Import the download

Go to Products → Import, add the file, tick Overwrite products with matching handles, click Upload and continue, then Import products.

The default download holds only the columns needed to change prices: Title, URL handle, the option columns, SKU, Price and Compare-at price. Shopify leaves any column that isn't in the file as it is, so descriptions, images, inventory and SEO fields don't change.

Before you import

  • Test on one product first. Filter by a tag that only one product has and import that.
  • Keep your original export. Importing it again puts every price back.
  • Option values stay exactly as exported. Changing them makes Shopify create new variant IDs, which can break apps.
  • Market prices aren't touched. Fixed prices for other markets (columns like Price / International) aren't in the default download, so they stay as they are.
  • Use the full file only on a fresh export. It re-imports every column, so any change made in Shopify since the export would be overwritten.

Questions people ask

Can I bulk edit prices in Shopify without an app?

Yes. Shopify's bulk editor works for small batches, and a CSV export and import covers the whole catalog. This tool does the maths on the export so the import only changes prices.

Will importing the file overwrite my descriptions or images?

Not with the default download. Shopify only replaces the columns included in the file, and it only includes titles, handles, options, SKUs and prices.

How does .99 rounding work?

Rounding up moves each price to the next price ending in .99, so $26.40 becomes $26.99. Nearest picks whichever .99 price is closer ($25.99 here), and down picks the one below.

Can I change prices for one collection?

Shopify's product export doesn't include collections, so filter by a tag, vendor or type instead. If nothing groups those products, tag them in Shopify first.

Is my product file uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser, and the file never leaves your computer.
