Shopify Product Category Mapper
Paste a list of product titles and get the closest Shopify Standard Product Taxonomy category path for each one, in bulk.
Category, not type or tags
Shopify's Category field is different from the two other ways you might already sort products: Type is a free-text field you make up yourself, and Tags are free-text labels. Category is the one that maps to Shopify's own Standard Product Taxonomy, a fixed tree like Apparel & Accessories > Clothing > Clothing Tops > Shirts, and it's what drives Shopify's suggested category metafields (size, color, fabric, and so on, specific to what you sell).
Why it gives you a path, not a code
Shopify's product CSV also accepts a short code instead of the full path (for example hg-15-1-2), but this tool never invents one: guessing a code wrong would silently file the product under an unrelated category, where guessing a path wrong is at least an obvious mismatch you'll catch. Where it isn't confident, it says so, and Shopify's own Category field in admin autocompletes as you type, so you can confirm the exact match there in seconds.

Questions people ask
What's the difference between Category, Type and Tags?
Category is Shopify's fixed, standard taxonomy and the only one of the three that drives category-specific metafields. Type and Tags are free text you define yourself.
Why doesn't it give me the category ID code?
A wrong code files the product under the wrong category without any obvious sign something's off. The full path is safer to check by eye, and Shopify's own Category field autocompletes it for you.
Can I map more than 25 products at once?
Run it again with the next batch. Splitting large catalogs into batches also makes it easier to spot-check the results.
Does category affect SEO or search?
It feeds Shopify's built-in filtering, third-party channel syncing (like Google and TikTok Shop) and category-specific metafields, rather than being an on-site SEO field by itself.
What if none of the suggested categories look right?
Search Shopify's Category field directly in admin: its live search covers the full taxonomy and is the most reliable way to find an unusual product's category.
