Etsy Description Generator
Turn your notes into an Etsy description with a clear opening, the story behind the item, the details, care and shipping, ready to paste.
The structure
| Section | What it does |
|---|---|
| Opening | One or two sentences: what it is and who it's for, with your main search phrase. It's what buyers see before "Read more". |
| Story | How it's made and what makes it special, in your words |
| DETAILS | Materials, sizes, weight, options and what's included, as a list |
| PERSONALIZATION | What to enter at checkout, only for personalized items |
| CARE | How to look after it, only if you give care details |
| SHIPPING | Processing time, shipping and a line on returns, from your notes |
Etsy's Seller Handbook suggests moving subjective words like "beautiful" out of titles and into descriptions, and says search now reads descriptions along with titles, tags and attributes. So the description is where your voice and the full detail belong.
Why it's plain text
Etsy's description box doesn't format HTML or markdown, so the tool uses capital-letter headings and • list lines that look tidy as plain text on any screen.
- Short: 40 to 70 words before the details. Good for simple items.
- Standard: 70 to 120 words. Right for most listings.
- Detailed: 120 to 180 words, for made-to-order or personalized items that need explaining.
Before you publish
- Check every measurement. The tool uses your numbers exactly, so a typo in your notes ends up in the listing.
- Match your shop policies. Shipping and returns lines should say the same as your policies. The Etsy shop policy generator helps with those.
- Read Details to add. The tool lists facts buyers usually ask about that your notes don't cover.
- Paste it into the listing's Description field in Shop Manager, then preview it on a phone.
Questions people ask
Does Etsy use descriptions in search?
Yes. Etsy's Seller Handbook says its search considers the title, tags, attributes, description, first photo and reviews together.
How long should an Etsy description be?
Long enough to answer buyers' questions. Keep the opening short and put the detail in lists underneath, so it's easy to scan.
Can I use bold or bullet points?
Etsy descriptions are plain text, so the tool uses capital-letter headings and • characters for lists, which display as typed.
Can it write about my process?
Yes, from what you tell it. It never invents materials, places or techniques, so include those in your notes.
Is it free?
Yes, with a fair-use limit so it stays free for everyone. There's no sign-up. Your notes are sent to an AI model only to write the copy.
