The fees on an Etsy order
Every Etsy sale carries a $0.20 listing fee per item, a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus shipping, and an Etsy Payments processing fee that varies by the country your bank account is in. Some countries also pay a Regulatory Operating fee. Rates last checked 30 Sep 2026.
Worked example (the calculator's starting values)
- Order
- $35 item + $5 shipping = $40.00, US seller
- Listing fee
- $0.20
- Transaction fee
- 6.5% × $40 = $2.60
- Processing fee
- 3% × $40 + $0.25 = $1.45
Etsy fees total $4.25 (10.6% of the order). You keep $35.75, and $20.75 after a $15 cost of goods, label and packaging.
If the same order comes from an Offsite Ad at the 15% rate, the extra Offsite Ads fee brings total Etsy fees to $10.25 (25.6% of the order), and profit falls to $14.75.

Offsite Ads
Etsy runs ads for your listings off its own site and charges a fee, capped at $100 per order, only on orders those ads bring in: 15% for most shops, or 12% once a shop passes $10,000 in sales in the past 12 months. Every seller with over $10,000 in the past year must participate; smaller shops can opt out. Check Shop Manager → Marketing → Offsite Ads to see if it's on and what share of your orders it's bringing.
Questions people ask
How much does Etsy take per sale?
A $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee on item price plus shipping, and a payment processing fee that varies by country (3% + $0.25 in the US). Some countries also pay a small Regulatory Operating fee, and orders from Offsite Ads pay an extra 12% or 15%.
Does Etsy charge fees on shipping I charge the buyer?
Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee and the payment processing fee both apply to the item price plus the shipping you charge, not just the item price.
What is Etsy's Regulatory Operating fee?
A percentage fee Etsy charges sellers with a bank account in certain countries, including the UK, Canada, France, Italy and Spain, to cover local regulatory costs. It doesn't apply to US sellers.
Is the Offsite Ads fee optional?
Only for shops under $10,000 in sales over the past 12 months. Shops above that threshold are automatically enrolled and can't opt out, though the fee only applies to orders the ads actually bring in.
Does sales tax affect Etsy's fees?
In the US, Etsy's processing fee is charged on the tax collected as well as the order total, so a higher local tax rate slightly raises the processing fee.
