Etsy Shop Policy Generator
Get the Etsy settings to choose and the text to write for returns, exchanges, cancellations, custom orders, privacy and shop FAQs.
How Etsy's shop policies work
Etsy's shop policies are split into tabs: Returns & exchanges, Cancellations and Privacy. Returns are set by choosing options, and Etsy lets you set a different return policy for each physical listing, or one policy for all of them.
| Part | What you get from the tool |
|---|---|
| Returns & exchanges | The settings to choose, plus a plain-English explanation for your FAQs |
| Custom and personalized items | Whether they can be returned. Etsy lets you say you don't accept returns of custom or personalized orders. |
| Cancellations | Your window, and when made-to-order production starts |
| Privacy | A privacy policy to adapt: what you collect, why, who you share it with and buyers' rights |
| Shop FAQs | Four to six questions on processing, custom orders, shipping and returns |
Anything the tool needs but you haven't said, such as who pays return shipping, is marked [to confirm].
Rules to know
- Buyers in the EU have the right to cancel or return most orders within 14 days of delivery, Etsy Help notes, whatever your own policy says. UK buyers have similar rights. Personalized and made-to-order items are generally an exception.
- Privacy policies are required for sellers based in the EU or selling to buyers there, under GDPR. Etsy recommends that every seller has one, because many countries have similar laws.
- Etsy's simple return policy template gives buyers 30 days from delivery to return or exchange.
- Policies can't be edited in the Etsy Seller app. Use Etsy on a desktop or mobile browser.
This tool writes a clear starting point, not legal advice. If you sell a lot into the EU or UK, have the privacy policy checked.

Your policy is your choice, but buyers in the EU have a legal right to return most items within 14 days of delivery, and UK buyers have similar rights. Personalized items are generally an exception.
Can I refuse returns on custom items?
Yes. Etsy lets you say you don't accept returns of custom or personalized orders. You still need to sort out items that arrive damaged or wrong.
Do I need a privacy policy on Etsy?
If you're in the EU or sell to buyers there, yes, under GDPR. Etsy recommends one for every seller, because many countries have similar data protection laws.
Where do custom order rules go?
In your shop FAQs and in each custom listing's description, so buyers see them before they order.
Is it free?
Yes, with a fair-use limit so it stays free for everyone. There's no sign-up. Your notes are sent to an AI model only to write the copy.
