How the Offsite Ads fee is worked out
Etsy buys ads for your listings on Google, social networks and other sites. If a buyer clicks one and orders from your shop within 30 days, Etsy charges an Offsite Ads fee on that whole order. It comes on top of the usual listing, transaction and processing fees.
Example (the calculator's starting numbers)
- Item price + shipping
- $40.00 + $6.00 = $46.00
- Offsite Ads fee (15%)
- $6.90
- Listing, transaction (6.5%) and processing (3% + $0.25)
- $0.20 + $2.99 + $1.63
- Etsy fees in total
- $11.72
- Item cost + shipping label
- $12.00 + $5.00
Take-home is 46 − 11.72 = $34.28 and profit is $17.28, against $24.18 on the same order without the ad.
The cap matters for big orders. At 15% you hit $100 on an order of $666.67. At 12% it takes $833.33. Anything above that costs you no more.
12% or 15%, and can you opt out?
| Your shop's sales in the prior 365 days | Offsite Ads rate | Can you opt out? |
|---|---|---|
| Under $10,000 | 15% | Yes, while you stay under $10,000 |
| $10,000 or more (at any point) | 12% for the life of the shop | No, participation becomes required |
Etsy checks the threshold on the first day of each month. Sales for the threshold count item price times quantity, minus discounts and cancellations, and leave out shipping, tax and gift wrap.
To opt out while you're under $10,000, go to Shop Manager → Settings → Offsite Ads. If most of your listings are thin-margin, opting out can be worth it. If you have healthy margins, the extra sales usually pay for the fee.
Pricing so an Offsite Ads sale still pays
- Run your best sellers through the Etsy reverse fee calculator with Offsite Ads set to 12% or 15%. That gives the price that keeps your profit even on an ad-driven order.
- Charge shipping rather than folding it into the price if your margins are thin. The fee applies to shipping either way, but a visible shipping charge keeps your item price competitive in search.
- If you're thinking of moving part of your sales to your own store, the Etsy vs Shopify calculator shows when that becomes cheaper.
The Offsite Ads cap is set in US dollars. For shops in other currencies the calculator treats it as 100 in your currency, which is close but not exact. Rates last checked 30 Sep 2026.
Questions people ask
What is the Etsy Offsite Ads fee?
A 15% fee (12% for shops past $10,000 in yearly sales) on any order placed within 30 days of a buyer clicking an Etsy ad for your listing on another site. It's capped at $100 per order.
Does the Offsite Ads fee include shipping?
Yes. It's charged on the item price plus shipping and gift wrap. Outside the US it also applies to tax that's included in your listing prices.
Can I turn off Etsy Offsite Ads?
Only while your shop has made less than $10,000 in the prior 365 days, from Shop Manager → Settings → Offsite Ads. Once you reach $10,000 you're enrolled at 12% for good.
Do I pay Offsite Ads and Etsy Ads on the same order?
No. If the buyer's last click within those 30 days was an Etsy Ad (the on-site ads you pay for), only the Etsy Ads fee applies.
Is the Offsite Ads fee refunded if the order is cancelled?
Etsy recalculates fees on refunds made through Etsy Payments, so check your payment account after a refund. Refunds that Etsy covers under its Purchase Protection program don't credit fees back.
