Why write it all at once

Etsy's search reads your title, tags, attributes and description together. When they're written separately, they repeat each other or pull in different directions. Written together, each part has its own job:

Your main search phrase appears in the title, one tag and the description's first sentence. Everything else is spread out so nothing is wasted.

Checks before you publish

  • Tags: paste them into the Etsy tag checker to confirm each is 20 characters or fewer.
  • Attributes: fill in color, material, occasion and the other attributes in the listing form too. Etsy's search reads them alongside tags.
  • Numbers: check every size and weight against the item.
  • Fees: if you're setting the price at the same time, the Etsy fee calculator shows what you keep.

Creating the listing

    Start a listing

    In Shop Manager, go to Listings and add a new listing, or open one to update.

  2. 02

    Title and description

    Paste the title and the description into their fields.

  3. 03

    Tags

    Paste the 13 tags into Tags. Etsy splits the list at each comma.

  4. 04

    Preview on a phone

    Check that the first lines of the description make sense before "Read more".

Questions people ask

How many tags does the listing include?

All 13, each 20 characters or fewer, covering materials, styles, occasions, recipients and uses.

Is the title long enough to rank?

Etsy now recommends clear titles of fewer than 15 words, because search reads the whole listing. The tags and description carry the other phrases.

Can I use it for digital downloads?

Yes. Describe the file types, sizes and what the buyer receives, and the details list will cover them.

Does it fill in attributes?

No, Etsy's attributes are set by choosing options in the listing form. Fill them in yourself; they help search too.

Is it free?

Yes, with a fair-use limit so it stays free for everyone. There's no sign-up. Your notes are sent to an AI model only to write the copy.
