Working backwards from your profit
Most Etsy fees are a percentage of what the buyer pays, so you can't just add them to your costs. The calculator solves for the price where your costs, your profit and every fee all fit.
Example (the calculator's starting numbers, US shop, free shipping)
- Profit you want
- $15.00
- Item cost + shipping label
- $8.00 + $5.00
- Fixed fees
- $0.20 listing + $0.25 processing
- Percentage fees
- 6.5% + 3% = 9.5%
(15 + 8 + 5 + 0.45) ÷ 0.905 = 31.436, rounded up to $31.44. Etsy takes $3.44 and you keep exactly $15.00.

Questions people ask
How much does Etsy take from a sale?
In the US: $0.20 to list, 6.5% of the item price plus shipping, and 3% + $0.25 for payment processing. On a $31.44 item with free shipping that's $3.44, about 11%. Offsite Ads adds 12% or 15% on the orders it brings.
Should I charge for shipping or offer free shipping on Etsy?
Etsy's transaction fee applies to shipping too, so the fees are nearly the same either way. Free shipping with the cost built into the price tends to help in search, especially for US orders.
Does the calculator include Etsy Ads?
No. Etsy Ads is a daily budget you set, not a per-sale fee. Divide your monthly Etsy Ads spend by your orders and add it to the item cost to include it.
Why does my price go up so much with Offsite Ads?
A 15% fee on top of Etsy's other 9.5% means the price has to rise by about 20% to keep the same profit. Price your best sellers for it, since they're the listings Etsy advertises most.
