Etsy's current title guidance

Etsy used to lean heavily on titles in search, so sellers packed them with keywords. Etsy's Seller Handbook now says its search takes a more holistic view (title, tags, attributes, description, first photo and reviews), so the title can focus on clarity. Buyers tell Etsy that clear, easy-to-scan titles help them shop with confidence.

Updating a title on Etsy

    Open the listing

    In Shop Manager, go to Listings and open the listing.

    Replace the title with the recommended one, or one of the alternatives.

    Move the extras

    Add any words the tool moved out of the title to your tags or description, then publish.

    Give it time

    Compare views and visits over a few weeks before you change it again. One change at a time tells you what worked.

Questions people ask

How long can an Etsy title be?

Up to 140 characters. Etsy's guidance suggests using fewer than 15 words and keeping it clear rather than filling the space.

Should I still put keywords in my Etsy title?

Yes, your main one, near the start. Etsy's search also reads tags, attributes and descriptions, so the other phrases can go there instead.

Should I include "gift for her" in the title?

Only if it's essential to what the item is. Etsy suggests keeping occasions and recipients out of titles unless they define the item. Put them in tags.

Will changing my title hurt my ranking?

Any change can shift results for a while. Change one listing first, watch its stats for a few weeks, then roll out what works.
