Amazon Image Requirements Checker
Checks an existing product photo against Amazon's main image rules and gives you a fixed, compliant version.
What this checks (Amazon main image)
- Longest side
- 1,000 px+ for zoom, 1,600 px+ ideal
- Background
- Exactly RGB 255, 255, 255
- Product fill
- 85% or more
- Format
- JPEG preferred; PNG, TIFF, GIF accepted
Settings
Amazon: 1,000 px or more enables zoom.
Amazon: the product should fill 85% to 100% of the frame.
Raise it if shadows or an uneven backdrop remain. Lower it if a pale product loses its edges.
What the checker looks at
Upload a photo and it's checked against Amazon's four automated rules for the main image: longest side, background color, product fill and file format. Rules Amazon can't check by machine (props, watermarks, whether it's the actual product) are listed separately, because software can't judge them reliably.
- Longest side: fails under 1,000 px, warns under 1,600 px.
- Background: checks the outer ring of pixels for an exact RGB 255, 255, 255 white.
- Product fill: estimates how much of the frame the product's bounding box takes up, and flags anything under 85%.
- Format: JPEG, PNG, TIFF and GIF pass; anything else is flagged.
What you still have to check yourself
Amazon's own listing quality tools reject images with text, logos, watermarks, promotional badges, props that aren't included, or anything that isn't a real photo of the product. This tool can't see meaning, only pixels, so it lists these as a manual checklist under the results.
The fixed version
Every scan also produces a fixed image: backdrop replaced with pure white, product centered and scaled to your chosen fill percentage, saved as JPEG. Download it and upload it straight to your listing, or adjust Product size in the fixed image first if you want it to fill a different share of the frame.
Questions people ask
Why did my photo fail the background check?
Most "white" studio photos aren't pure white once you look at the pixel values: shadows, JPEG compression and lighting shift them a few points off 255. The fixed version replaces the backdrop with an exact white.
What does 'product fill' mean?
How much of the frame the product's longest side takes up, estimated from where the background stops and the product starts. Amazon asks for 85% to 100%.
Can this tool tell if my main image breaks Amazon's content rules?
No. It can measure background color, size and fill, but not whether there's a logo, watermark or prop in the shot. Check the manual list under the results for what to look for yourself.
Does passing this checker guarantee Amazon will approve the image?
No. It checks the rules Amazon enforces automatically, but Amazon also reviews content manually in some categories, and category-specific rules (like clothing) can add requirements this tool doesn't cover.
