WebP Converter
Convert photos to WebP (or back to JPEG or PNG), in bulk, right in your browser.
Settings
80 to 90 looks the same as the original to most people, at a fraction of the size.
0 keeps the original size.
How it works
Drop in up to 30 images, pick WebP, JPEG or PNG as the target, and every file converts in your browser using the canvas your browser already ships with. Nothing is uploaded anywhere, so there's no file-size or privacy limit beyond your own device's memory.
The quality slider only applies to WebP and JPEG, since PNG is always lossless. A quality of 82 is a reasonable default: close to the original to most people, at a fraction of the size of an unoptimized JPEG.
WebP vs. JPEG vs. PNG
- WebP for almost every product photo: smaller than JPEG at the same visual quality, and it supports transparency if you need it.
- JPEG if you're sending a file somewhere that specifically asks for it, like some marketplaces' upload forms.
- PNG only for images that need transparency and can't use WebP, or flat graphics like a logo where lossless matters more than file size.
Most modern platforms, including Shopify's CDN, already serve WebP or AVIF automatically to browsers that support them, converted from whatever you upload. Converting yourself matters most when a specific tool, ad platform or upload form insists on a particular format.
Questions people ask
Is WebP better than JPEG?
For most photos, yes: WebP typically produces a smaller file at the same visual quality, and it also supports transparency, which JPEG can't do at all.
Does converting to WebP lose quality?
At a high quality setting (80 and above), the difference is invisible to most people. Very low quality settings show visible blockiness in both WebP and JPEG.
Can I convert an animated GIF to WebP here?
This tool converts the first frame of a GIF to a still image. WebP does support animation, but creating an animated WebP from an animated GIF needs a dedicated encoder, which isn't something a browser's canvas can do.
Do I need to convert my images if I use Shopify?
Not for the storefront: Shopify's CDN automatically serves WebP or AVIF to browsers that support them. Converting yourself still helps if you're uploading somewhere else, or if you want the smallest possible original file.
