Product Image Consistency Checker
Scans your store's product feed and flags photos with a mismatched aspect ratio or too small to zoom.
How the scan works
Enter your store's address. The checker first tries a Shopify store's public /products.json feed, then a WooCommerce store's Store API, and falls back to reading the width and height attributes on <img> tags in the page itself if neither feed is available. It reads the main image of each product, groups them by aspect ratio, and flags anything that doesn't match your store's dominant shape, plus anything under the pixel size you choose.
It checks at most a handful of pages per scan and stops after the first 300 Shopify products, so very large catalogs are sampled rather than scanned in full.
Why consistent shapes matter
Collection and search grids assume every product image is roughly the same shape. One portrait photo dropped into a grid of square ones either gets awkwardly cropped or leaves gaps, which most themes handle inconsistently across products.
Fix mismatched photos with the ecommerce image size guide or the Shopify Image Resizer: resize the outliers to your store's dominant shape and re-upload them.
What this scan can and can't see
- WooCommerce sizes are estimated from the resized image copies WordPress lists in its Store API response, not read from the original file, so treat them as close rather than exact.
- Page-only scans (no product feed found) read the
widthandheightHTML attributes on the page, which some themes set to the display size rather than the file's real pixel size. - It only checks each product's main image, not every photo in the gallery.
Questions people ask
Does this work on any store, or just Shopify and WooCommerce?
It gets the most detail from Shopify's product feed and WooCommerce's Store API. On other platforms, it falls back to reading image sizes from the page itself, which is less precise but still catches obviously undersized images.
Why does it say my WooCommerce image sizes are estimated?
The WooCommerce Store API returns resized copies of each image, not the original file, so the checker infers the size from those. It's usually close, but not an exact pixel count.
What counts as a mismatched aspect ratio?
Any main image whose width-to-height ratio doesn't match your store's most common ratio, grouped into common shapes like 1:1, 4:5 or 4:3, with a small tolerance for rounding.
My store has thousands of products. Will it check them all?
Shopify scans stop after the first 300 products to keep the check fast. For a full audit of a larger catalog, export your product feed and check sizes in bulk instead.
