What the checker looks at

  • Format: JPEG, PNG and BMP pass; GIF fails outright, because Walmart doesn't accept it.
  • File size: fails over 5 MB.
  • Shape: fails anything that isn't a 1:1 square.
  • Resolution: passes at 2,200 × 2,200 px or more, warns from 1,500 px (zoom still works), fails under it.
  • Background: checks the outer ring of pixels for a pure white backdrop.

It also produces a fixed version: square, pure white background, JPEG, capped at 5 MB, ready to re-upload.

What image size does Walmart Marketplace want?

2,200 x 2,200 pixels is the recommended size. 1,500 x 1,500 px is the floor for the zoom feature to work at all.

Does Walmart accept GIF product images?

No. Walmart Marketplace accepts JPEG, PNG and BMP for the primary image, not GIF.

How many photos should a Walmart listing have?

Walmart recommends at least four images per listing for the best customer experience; more, well-lit and in-focus photos generally help your listing quality score.

Why does the background matter so much on Walmart?

Walmart's guidance calls for a seamless, pure white background on the primary image, and images that don't meet the platform's requirements can affect whether the listing publishes at all.
