How it works

Click your photo to set the focal point (where the important part is), and the tool crops both the big banner (4:1) and the mini banner (about 7.5:1) around it, so the same subject stays framed in both. A phone-width preview under the big banner shows roughly how it reads on mobile.

The mini banner is hidden on mobile, per Etsy's own help center, which is why the mobile preview here only shows the big banner: that's the one mobile shoppers actually see.

Keeping text readable

Etsy's guidance is to keep any shop name or text near the middle of the banner, so it stays readable once the banner is scaled down for smaller screens. Avoid putting important text or faces near the far left or right edge, since a wide 4:1 crop trims those first on narrower browser windows.

Questions people ask

What size should an Etsy banner be?

1600 x 400 px is Etsy's recommended size for the big banner, with 1200 x 300 px as the minimum. The Seller Handbook also lists 3360 x 840 px for a sharper display on high-resolution screens.

Do I need a mini banner too?

It's optional and, per Etsy's help center, hidden on mobile, so treat it as a desktop-only extra rather than a must-have.

Why does the tool show a dashed outline on my photo?

That's the crop area for each banner, based on your chosen focal point. Click a different spot on the photo to move both crops.

Can I use the same photo for my banner and my shop icon?

You can, but Etsy's recommended shop icon size (500 x 500 px) is a very different shape from the wide banner, so crop each separately rather than stretching one file to fit both.
