Product Background Remover

Cuts out a plain, evenly lit backdrop and swaps in a transparent or solid background, right in your browser.

Describe the result you need. AI will set up the tool and ask for any missing details.

How different a color can be from the backdrop and still be removed.

Feathers the cut edge so it doesn't look jagged.

How it works, and what it can't do

This tool works by color keying: it samples the color around the edges of your photo, then removes every pixel close enough to that color, starting from the edges inward. That's the same technique as a green screen. It's fast and needs no upload, but it only works on a plain, evenly lit backdrop: a seamless white, grey or colored paper background with the product shot on its own.

It does not run an AI or machine-learning cutout model. There's no way to ship a real background-segmentation model in the browser without adding a large dependency, so this tool can't separate a product from a busy scene, a lifestyle photo, or a backdrop with shadows or folds of different shades. For that, you need a dedicated AI cutout tool or a photo editor's selection tools.

Example: a mug on an even grey backdrop

Backdrop touching the edges

The grey background is removed and replaced with a checkerboard (meaning transparent), while the mug itself, shot on its own with no matching colors, stays intact.

Getting a clean cut

  • Tolerance controls how different a color can be from the backdrop and still count as background. Raise it if shadows or a slightly uneven wall are left behind; lower it if part of a pale or white product starts disappearing.
  • Edge softness blurs the cut line a little, so it doesn't look jagged when you zoom in.
  • Backdrop touching the edges vs. every matching pixel. The first is safer: it only removes background connected to the photo's border, so a matching color trapped inside a handle or a loop stays solid. Switch to "every matching pixel" if you need those inner gaps removed too.

Using the result

Download a transparent PNG to place the product over any background in a design tool, or pick Pure white background (JPEG) to go straight to a marketplace like Amazon that needs a white backdrop with no transparency. Check the edges at full size before you upload: color keying can leave a faint fringe on curved edges, especially with strong backlighting.

Questions people ask

Does this use AI to remove the background?

No. It uses color keying (like a green screen), sampling the backdrop color and removing pixels close to it. That means it only works on a plain, evenly lit background, not a busy or lifestyle scene.

Why didn't it remove my background properly?

Color keying needs the backdrop to be one fairly even color. Shadows, folds, gradients or a background close in color to the product will confuse it. Raise the tolerance a little, or enter the backdrop color yourself instead of auto-detecting it.

Can it cut out a person or a busy scene?

No. It only separates a product from a plain backdrop. A photo shot in a room, outdoors, or with a patterned background needs an AI cutout tool or manual selection in a photo editor.

What output should I pick for Amazon or Walmart?

Pick Pure white background (JPEG). Both require an exact white backdrop with no transparency, and JPEG avoids any issue with how a marketplace handles a transparent file.
