Settings
Amazon's zoom needs 1,000 px or more on the longest side; 1,600 px or more is better.
Finds the product's edges, then places it in the middle of the frame.
Amazon asks for the product to fill 85% to 100% of the frame.
Turns an off-white or light grey backdrop into exact RGB 255, 255, 255.
Higher removes more shades of the backdrop. Lower it if parts of a pale product disappear.
80 to 90 looks the same as the original to most people, at a fraction of the size.
How it builds a compliant main image
The tool trims your photo to the product's own edges, replaces the backdrop with pure white (RGB 255, 255, 255), and scales the product to fill the share of the frame you set. Amazon checks the main image automatically and rejects ones that fail, so getting this right before you upload avoids a bounce.
Example: the default settings
- Longest side
- 2000 px
- Product fill
- 90%
- Background
- Pure white
Output is 2000 px on the longest side, well past Amazon's 1,000 px zoom minimum, with the product filling 90% of the frame (inside Amazon's 85% to 100% range) on an exact white background.
Amazon's main image rules
| Requirement | |
|---|---|
| Longest side | 1,000 px or more for zoom (1,600 px or more is better) |
| Background | Pure white, RGB 255, 255, 255 |
| Product fill | 85% to 100% of the frame |
| Format | JPEG preferred (PNG, TIFF and GIF also accepted) |
These apply to the main image only. Secondary images can show the product in use, packaging, size charts or lifestyle shots, and don't need a white background.
Things that get a main image rejected
- Off-white instead of pure white. A backdrop that looks white to the eye can still read as RGB 250, 250, 248 or similar. Turn on the white clean-up here rather than trusting the original photo.
- Text, logos or props. Amazon's main image is the product alone, nothing added.
- Too much white space. Under 85% fill reads as small and unclear on a phone. Use the Amazon Image Requirements Checker to test an existing photo before you resize it.
Questions people ask
What size should Amazon's main image be?
At least 1,000 px on the longest side so shoppers can zoom, with 1,600 px or more recommended for a sharper zoom. This tool defaults to 2,000 px.
Does the main image have to be pure white?
Yes. Amazon's requirement is an exact RGB 255, 255, 255 background, not just an off-white or light grey one. The white clean-up here targets that exact value.
Can I use this tool for secondary images?
Yes. Turn off the white clean-up to keep your own background for lifestyle, in-use or packaging shots, which don't need to be white.
Why does the tool warn about enlarging my photo?
If your original is smaller than the size you asked for, the tool has to stretch it, which can look soft when a shopper zooms in. Shoot or export at 1,600 px or more where you can.
