Amazon's bullet point rules

Amazon updated its bullet point requirements on August 15, 2024, restricting special characters, emojis and some phrases, including refund-related guarantees. The generator writes to those rules:

RuleWhat the generator does
LengthEach bullet between 10 and 255 characters, and under 1,000 characters for all bullets together
FormatStarts with a capital letter, written as a sentence fragment with no end punctuation, semicolons between phrases
NumbersWritten as numerals, with your units kept exactly as given
Special charactersNo emojis and none of ™ ® © € … † ‡ ¢ £ ¥ ± ~
Banned phrasesNo eco-friendly, anti-bacterial, anti-microbial, made from bamboo or made from soy claims
Guarantees and contact detailsNo refund promises, warranty wording, links or company contact details
PlaceholdersNo ASINs, N/A, TBD or similar

Amazon also says each bullet should cover unique product information. The tool gives every bullet a different job: the main benefit, the key spec, materials, use and care, then what's in the box or who it suits.

How the bullets are built

  • A short label, then the detail, such as Keeps drinks cold: double-wall vacuum insulation holds temperature for up to 24 hours. Shoppers scan the labels and read the ones that matter to them.
  • Benefit first, feature second. Each bullet says what the shopper gets, then the fact that delivers it.
  • Your keywords once each, where they fit naturally. Repeating a keyword doesn't help, and it reads badly.
  • Claims Amazon doesn't allow are listed in Notes, so you know what was left out and why.

Each bullet comes in its own box with a character count, so you can check it against the 255-character limit before you paste.

Adding the bullets to your listing

  1. 01

    Open the listing

In Seller Central, go to Catalog → Manage all inventory, find the product and choose Edit.

  2. 02

    Find the bullet fields

The bullet points sit with the product description in the listing's description section. Paste one bullet into each field, in order.

  3. 03

    Save and check the page

Save, then view the product page after it updates. If Amazon flags a bullet, the message tells you which rule it breaks.

If you want the title, bullets, description and search terms together, use the Amazon listing generator instead.

Questions people ask

How many bullet points can an Amazon listing have?

Amazon's guidance is written around five bullets and asks for at least three, each with different information. The tool writes five by default and lets you choose three or four.

What's the character limit for Amazon bullet points?

Amazon's guidance is more than 10 and fewer than 255 characters per bullet, and under 1,000 characters for all of them together. Limits can vary by category, so check the field in Seller Central.

Why did the tool leave out "eco-friendly"?

Amazon's bullet point requirements list it among restricted phrases, with claims like anti-bacterial and made from bamboo. The tool leaves them out and lists them under Notes.

Should bullets end with a period?

No. Amazon asks for sentence fragments with no end punctuation, and semicolons to separate phrases within a bullet.

Is it free?

Yes, with a fair-use limit so it stays free for everyone. There's no sign-up. Your notes are sent to an AI model only to write the copy.
