Amazon Backend Search Terms Generator
Get backend search terms made only of words your title and bullets miss, with repeats, brands and filler stripped out and trimmed to fit the byte limit.
Amazon's rules for search terms
The Search Terms field is hidden from shoppers but read by Amazon's search. Amazon's help page, Use search terms effectively, sets out the rules:
- Under 250 bytes. Plain letters and numbers are 1 byte each. Accented letters such as
ätake 2 bytes, and symbols such as€take 3. - Generic words only: no brand names, yours or anyone else's.
- No repeats, and nothing already in the title, brand or other fields.
- Separate words with spaces. Punctuation isn't needed.
- Spelling variations, not misspellings. Amazon's search already handles common misspellings.
- No stop words such as a, an, and, by, for, of, the and with.
How the generator builds the list
- 01
Reads your listing
It notes every word already in your title and bullets, because those are indexed already.
- 02
Finds the gaps
It lists synonyms, other names for the product, uses, occasions and audiences that don't appear anywhere yet.
- 03
Cleans the list
It removes brands, stop words, subjective words like "best", repeats and plurals of words already there.
- 04
Trims to fit
It aims for 170 to 220 characters of plain letters, which keeps you safely under 250 bytes, cutting the least important words from the end.
AI models can't count bytes exactly, so paste the result into the Amazon backend keywords checker. It counts every byte and flags anything left over.

Questions people ask
What is the byte limit for Amazon search terms?
Amazon limits the field to under 250 bytes. Plain English letters are 1 byte each, but accented letters and symbols take 2 or 3, so count bytes, not characters.
Should I put competitor brands in my search terms?
No. Amazon's rules say not to include brand names in search terms. The generator removes them, including phrases like "alternative to" a named brand.
Do I need commas between terms?
No. Separate words with single spaces. Amazon says punctuation isn't needed.
Should I repeat words from my title?
No. Words in the title are already indexed, so repeating them wastes space you could use for new terms.
Is it free?
Yes, with a fair-use limit so it stays free for everyone. There's no sign-up. Your notes are sent to an AI model only to write the copy.
