What the checker looks for

Amazon tightened its US title character limit to 75 characters, spaces included, for most categories from 27 Jul 2026 (some categories, mainly media, still use a 200-character limit). This checker counts characters against your chosen limit and flags the other issues Amazon's title style guide calls out.

Worked example (the checker's sample title, default 75-character limit)

Sample title
“HydroPeak Insulated Water Bottle 32 oz - Stainless Steel Water Bottle with Straw Lid, BPA Free, Leak Proof Water Bottle for Gym & Travel - BEST Gift!”
Length
149 characters, 74 over the limit

4 issues: 74 characters over the limit, a banned “!”, “water” and “bottle” each used 3 times (Amazon allows a word twice), and “best” and “free” read as promotional. “BEST” in capitals is also flagged.

What each check means

  • Character limit. Counts every character including spaces, using your chosen limit (75, the older 200, or a custom number). The part past the limit is highlighted in the title.
  • Banned characters. Amazon disallows symbols like !, $, ?, _, {, }, ^ in titles, except inside your brand name, which you can enter so it's excluded from the check.
  • Repeated words. Amazon allows a word (other than short connectors like "and" or "for") at most twice in a title.
  • Promotional language. Words like "best", "free", "sale" or "#1" describe an offer, not the product, and belong in a coupon or promotion instead of the title.
  • All-caps words and extra spacing, both of which Amazon's style guide asks sellers to avoid outside a brand or acronym.

Fixing a title

The Cleaned title output strips banned characters and extra spaces automatically. It won't shorten the title or remove repeated words for you: move materials, use cases and extra features into Item Highlights or bullet points instead, and keep the title to the product name, key variant details (size, color, count) and brand.

Questions people ask

What is Amazon's title character limit in 2026?

75 characters, spaces included, for most US categories since 27 Jul 2026. Some categories, mainly media, still use the older 200-character limit.

What characters are banned from Amazon titles?

Symbols including !, $, ?, _, {, }, ^ and a few others, except when they're part of your registered brand name.

Can I repeat a word in my Amazon title?

Once more, but not a third time. Amazon allows a word at most twice, apart from short connecting words like "and", "for" or "with".

Why can't I use "free shipping" or "best seller" in my title?

Amazon treats those as promotional claims about an offer rather than facts about the product, and can suppress listings that use them. Put deals in a coupon or promotion instead.

Does the character limit include spaces?

Yes. Amazon counts every character, spaces included, toward the limit.
