Text (TSV) vs. XML feeds

Merchant Center accepts a scheduled fetch in a few formats. This tool builds two of them from the same product list:

  • Text (TSV): tab-separated values, with each column header in square brackets, like [id] and [price]. This is the simplest format to host as a plain text file.
  • XML: an RSS 2.0 feed with Google's g: namespace (xmlns:g="http://base.google.com/ns/1.0"), each product wrapped in an <item> with tags like <g:id> and <g:price>.

Paste your product list as a CSV with columns for id, title, description, link, image_link, price, availability, brand, gtin and condition. Columns are matched by name (case-insensitive), so the exact order doesn't matter.

Setting it up in Merchant Center

  1. 01

    Host the file

Save the downloaded file somewhere with a stable public URL (a page on your store, or file storage you control).

  2. 02

    Add a feed

In Merchant Center, go to Products → Feeds, add a new primary feed, and choose Scheduled fetch. Point it at your file's URL.

  3. 03

    Set a schedule

Merchant Center re-fetches the file on the schedule you pick, at most once a day for a scheduled fetch feed.

Questions people ask

What columns does my CSV need?

At minimum: id, title, link, image_link, price and availability. brand, gtin and condition are strongly recommended and get carried through when present.

How is price formatted in the output?

As a number and a currency code, like "24.00 USD". If your CSV price column has no currency, the currency you pick in the form is added automatically.

Which availability values does Google accept?

in_stock, out_of_stock, preorder and backorder. Anything else in your CSV is converted to in_stock, so check those rows before publishing.

Can I use this feed for a scheduled fetch and a one-time upload?

Yes, both the text and XML formats work for either. A scheduled fetch just means Merchant Center re-downloads the file on its own on a schedule you set.
