The character budget is calculated, not guessed

Google sets no fixed length limit on a title or a meta description: it truncates the snippet to fit the screen. Shopify's own guidance is to keep titles to 60 characters or fewer, so that's the default budget this tool writes to for the title, and 120 to 155 characters for the description.

If you add a store name suffix (such as " | Harbour & Co"), the tool subtracts its exact length from the 60-character budget before it writes a single title, so the product part never runs long trying to fit the suffix in afterward. If your store name is long enough that almost no room would be left for the product, it drops the suffix automatically and tells you why.

What each field is for

  • SEO title: leads with what the product is in the words shoppers search for, then the detail that sets it apart. Title Case, no repeated keywords, no "Buy", "Best" or prices.
  • Meta description: one or two sentences on what it is, the detail that matters most, and a reason to click, using your product details or the "Also mention" field, such as free shipping.
  • 2 versions: gives each product a second title and description that lead with a different angle, so you can compare or A/B test them.

No rating, review count, "best-selling" claim or discount appears unless your product details actually state it.

Questions people ask

Is 60 characters a hard limit from Google?

No. Google doesn't set a fixed character limit for titles or descriptions; it truncates the snippet to fit the screen. Shopify recommends 60 characters or fewer for titles so they don't get cut off, which is the budget this tool uses.

Why did my store name get dropped from the titles?

If your store name is long enough that adding it would leave almost no room for the product itself, the tool drops the suffix automatically and explains why in the notes. Google usually shows your site name above the result anyway.

How many products can I do at once?

Up to 10 per run. Paste more and the tool tells you how many to run again separately.

Can it claim a rating or a discount for my product?

Only if your product details state it. It won't add a star rating, review count or a discount that isn't real.

Will Google always show what I write?

Not always. Google can rewrite a title or snippet if it thinks a different one fits the search better. Clear, specific text that matches the page makes a rewrite less likely.
